Did Bayo 2 get vetoed unfairly in The Game Awards?

This honestly isn't a opinion post: I'm really asking at this point.

I've heard rumors about the recent Geoff Keighly's "The Game Awards!" may have suffered from some judges being pretty...against Bayonetta 2 getting the award for Game of the Year. Someone called 'Lou Kesten' (one of the judges) was apparently pretty open about not wanting the game to win, even apparently saying that he would "quit" if it did. This has been floating around:

(originally found it here: http://techraptor.net/content/game-awards-judge-reveals-bias-bayonetta-2 )
^ Has more tweets from the same guy, all of which are pretty incriminating.

Sooo...anyone know what the heck is going one with that? I don't want to make a claim till I have some more solid info regarding the judging: this could just be one ass of a judge being outspoken (since there's no doubt this guy DEFINITELY didn't vote for Bayo*), but I'm worried Bayonetta 2 may have degraded kind of unfairly.

Anyone have any more info on this?

*Just to clarify: the guy can have his opinion, and I'm not faulting him for that, but I'm worried this could be indicative of this kind of attitude from more then just a single judge regarding the game.

Oh, fucking oath.

This unfairness you're talking about... it's this little thing we call "voting".

Was Bayonetta judged by people who thought other games were more deserving of their GOTY vote? Well, yes, obviously. Otherwise it would have won. That's how judging works.

In other news, I think my preferred political candidate was unfairly vetoed in the last election. See, a majority of the people voting were of the opinion that someone else should get the position. I even heard some of them talking about their intention to vote for someone else before the election. Scandalous!

I'm just surprised that he hated Bayonetta 2 so much that he would've quit if it won game of the year. I'm also surprised that he dicided to tweet about it.

I frown on the tweet but I don't believe any corruption is involved.

Most likely the judges just voted on the game of the year and this particular judge is just expressing satisfaction the game he didn't like didn't get to win. Its in poor taste for a judge to do so but its no proof he actively sabotaged the game.

The judge remains an idiot though. He's just inviting people to see corruption if he goes off making statements like that.

But no, there was no corruption as I sincerely doubt one dude could convince 28 people to vote against it.

I doubt he would have. He was likely being hyperbolic like a lot of people are when they post about something they don't like. He is being a douche though.

So you are saying it's like the people tallying the votes, saying they would leave the country if the candidate they didn't like was elected.

Anyhow as I said in the previous thread, totally unprofessional people defending such snide comment by a guy from Associated Press. This is the type of comment I would expect from someone much younger, I was surprised when I looked this Lou guy up

He was a judge, not a vote counter. A judge in an entirely subjective matter of 'Which game is the best'.

And I hear hyperbolic statements like that one made all the time during elections. "If so-and-so wins, I'm fucking moving to New Zealand." Of course, they never mean it, and I rather doubt this guy did either.

This is just yet another case of some gamers having a fit because someone in a position of relative authority didn't give them the confirmation they so desperately crave.

I have a problem with his comments while being in a jury in such a competition.
This leads to people questioning how his strong views effected the rest of the jury. He caused unneeded controversy, which could have been avoided if he just tweeted "Glad DA:I won". Why is it so difficult for people to be professional and think before they tweet - how their 140 characters cannot convey much apart from possibly cause a sh*t storm.

I don't think Bayo realistically has a chance to win this type of major award, in fact the major snub from my perspective was in the Action/Adventure Category where SoM which I though didn't have much depth in terms of the "Action" won. But I understand why people like SoM and a lot more people had an opportunity to play it, although it's not my personal preference

Did anyone expect Bayonetta 2 to win the TGA's?

As other's already say there is no corruption here, sadly a lot of ppl tend to look down on gamey games and consider them to be below games with gripping stories and movie like plot. Bayonetta 2 with it's crazy storyline would be like Cheech & Chong winning the Oscars to them.

Maybe if Bayonetta was as big as CoD it might have earned votes solely on it's popularity rather than quality but it's not.

I think it's more a crime that Dragon Age Inquisition won anything; let alone GOTY.
Not that this really maters at all.

People need to seriously stop putting so much emphasis and importance on a social media medium that can only provide contextless sound bytes at best, and make people look like idiots at worst.

I don't really think a guy who threatens to quit over one game winning over another is the best candidate to judge anything.

Bayonetta as a character is still too controversial to receive mainstream support, since most people don't want to support seemingly controversial things. Seriously, Bayonetta 2 could've been the single greatest game ever made, and people would still vote against it based on the titular character alone.

On another note, I still don't like the idea of DA:I winning GOTY, when what I've seen and heard of it basically boils down to 'single-player MMO' - specifically Warlords of Draenor.

I was going to say the same thing. Except with Canadia. Like so

Of course, we're Americans, so we also threaten that there's going to be an armed revolution every two years, which never happens.

A long time ago, I realized that these top whatever brackets are utter bullshit, and that, even if a critical mass makes voting decisions, they can be wrong. For all sorts of reasons.

This was made clear to me with this:

I liked Majora's Mask. But it wasn't the best game that came out between 2000 and 2010. I have no faith in any form of voting.

PS., I was reminded of this tangential quote:

"Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."

It's better to assume they didn't actually bother with Bayonetta 2. Like... seriously, nothing controversial, just that no one bothered to pick up a wii controller to play the joyous thing. I mean... if they had played Bayo, than Shadow of Mordor wouldn't have one "Best Action Game of the Year" (still laughing about that... yeah i'm grasping straws, so what? it's objectively the better action game >3> *grumble grumble*)

So, again it's probably not some dreaded controversy, just blissful ignorance.

Shorter Verdict: All award shows are dumb, play video games in peace, Bayo 2 GOTY 2014.
