Did Modern Warfare 2 end with a Cliffhanger?

In my opinion it did, but my friend disagrees.

The last scene of the game ended with Soap being helped to a helicopter by Price and Nikolai, as they talk about how Soap needs medical attention.

Not to mention, the last thing to be said in the game was: "Da- I know a place" End of game.

Well, yeah. That's usually the point of the second part of a trilogy. Just saying.

Well lets see...you don't know what will happen to Soap, Price, Makarov or the entirety of the friggin' USA or Russia. That pretty much defines a cliffhanger. ABSOLUTELY NO CLOSURE!!!

Awww! You beat me to it! D:

Anyway, as much as I prefer Battlefield to CoD in general (not trying to restart the war!), I'm curious as to what happens to Soap and Price in the next installment. So yeah, it ended with a cliffhanger.

No... not really.

Sure, it didn't completely wrap up the story. But the second game in a trilogy (?) usually doesn't. But it resolved the immediate situation, what with General What'shisface being dead and all.

A cliffhanger would be if the game ended just as they're going over the waterfall, or just as Soap gets stabbed.

The only Cliff Hanger from Modern Warfare 2 was how many morons are going to buy the third one to see the continuation of the 'story'.
We're still waiting for the answer.
Wow. Someone dislikes CoD? That's original. I'd give you a medal, but I gave out my final million to the last bandwagon to go past.

Look pal, if you don't like CoD then that's fine. People are entitled to their opinions. But if you don't like something could you please not post in a thread discussing it? I don't like Final Fantasy, but I have yet to roll into a FF thread and start insulting fans of that franchise for being "morons".

OT: As 'cliffhangers' go it was pretty weak sauce, but it was better than nothing I suppose. The storytelling in MW2 wasn't a patch on CoD4, but then Modern Warfare was happy to be a stand alone title. MW2 was trying to manufacture a trilogy, and so had to stretch itself into a 'To be continued...' style ending. Personally I'd have preferred more closure, but hey.

I really felt that the game ended the way it did, only to make a 3rd. I know it isnt the first game to do so, and certainly not the last, but it just seemed to be REALLY forced to me. But alas, there is a cliffhanger.

Actually, I love Modern Warfare, it's one of my personal favourite games of all time. I have the 360 version, and I played it to death. Amazing game. Modern Warfare 2, however, was one of the worst games ever made - the piss poor excuse for a story deserves to be mocked every at every possible chance. Hell, I'll sign up to websites just to post on their forums to remind people that Modern Warfare 2 was garbage.
I don't "Hate CoD". I don't subscribe to the Tall Poppy Syndrome that gets around these parts. I just hate games that ruin otherwise terrific series; Modern Warfare 2 wasn't a cliffhanger - it was a grave digger.

I don't think it did. It made me wonder what happened next, but it wasn't like it ended when Price and Soap realised the cave was about to blow up or something stupid.

Really? I thought MW2 was better in every way than MW1. Maybe I'm just easily pleased, but when I was trundling around Washington, I really felt like the Americans were at breaking point. I thought it was a brilliant game. 9.5/10.

Fair do's, my bad. I just got a little thrown with the "moron" comment you made. In terms of what impression gets given out by a post, there's a world of difference between 'I liked MW but MW2 sucked' and 'let's see how many morons buy MW3'. I'm sure looking at it that way you can see how easy it was for me to get confused.

And yeah, you're right. MW played excellently, with a believable plot (for a videogame) that dragged the player in and really helped immersion. Whereas MW2 dismissed all the plausibility of its predecessor and instead went for the Hollywood action-flick approach to storytelling. I think we just have to hope that when making 3, IW looked at more than just sales figures when writing the plot. Because it would be way too easy for 3 to be even more over-the-top Rambo nonsense than the last one was.

They played in very different ways. CoD4 played in a tense 'you could see this kinda thing on the news any day now' kinda way. MW2 played in a cheesy guns-and-glory Steven Seagal 'look at me as I slow-mo jump through a massive explosion' kinda way.

If the events of MW1 were plausible, so was MW2. Don't forget, there was an intervening period of 5 years, during which Russia could have become fiercely anti-West. I think that by saying MW1 was as you say, MW2 must be as well.

Wanna bet MW3 is ending with a cliffhanger too?

OT: No, that wasn't a cliffhanger more a 'to be continued' If it were a cliffhanger MW3 would start you throwing a knife at... Who ever the fuck you threw it at.
