I have never experienced a snowy day where they canceled school, and I doubt I ever will. We could really use a lot of snow here to pull it off, so if any of you are particularly generous feel free to donate some snow and ice my way.

To be honest, my university cancelled the entire week. Fricken awesome. AND it's started snowing again.
The whole week? Hot damn, you people are lucky! Also, I adore your username!

Snow days. There aren't snow days in Finland. And we do have quite a lot of snow. We just won't let it affect our lives too much.
Yup, same here.

I remember one year, was it 1995, when I was in elementary school, that the car taking me back home got stuck because it had snowed so fucking much (and we were driving in a road that wasn't ploughed every couple of hours). And that winter had a lot of snow, but still: business (and school) as usual.
One must appreciate how the whole snow situation is handled here. Even some of the less used roads are quite well taken care of during wintertime.

I suppose the concept of snow day is like many other things: once it's been established and people and the community have become used to it, it's quite difficult to remove it from the system. I can only guess what kind of consequences it has had and will have in the long term, at the places it is being applied on. I don't think it is that good of an option to bring something to a total halt, because of a weather phenomenon that can be managed with some additional effort.

Yeah, they cancelled it yesterday afternoon because there was an 80% chance all week, and it went up yesterday. I was hoping it was wrong though, so that it would be a snow day with nice weather.

No, cos I work nights. =/

My gf is a military contractor, tho, and has today off, had Monday off, and was one of, like, 4 people in her office yesterday, so that was pretty much a bust, too. >>

I live in Russia. No such thing as a snow day. Except the other day when the pipes froze in my school, I guess. But that's the only day we've taken off all winter, with a number of residents comparing weather conditions to those in the city during the Siege of Leningrad.

We got 8 inches of snow on monday, and unfortunately, my job stays open no matter what. I even had to drive my parents to the airport through the shit. And of course, my class had to be on tuesday so I had to go to that too. :(

Nope, in fact I'm typing this FROM school. We get out in less then twenty minutes due to a half day though so it's not that big a deal.

No, it was extremely fucking hot here in Adelaide, Australia. I was sweating all day at school then as soon as I got home I jumped in the pool. It was so refreshing, felt so good.
I hate you :(
