So pretty much every character is out online, what were your thoughts on the roster?

I like the gimmick characters like the wii fit trainer but for me, the franchises that seem to have been given a lot of attention this time around (Kid icarus and Fire emblem) are games I don't play and I was hoping for another metroid character but alas, still no such luck.

Least Dark Samus and Mother brain are assist trophies.

How about you?

The only character I really wanted to see was Lucina so I'm very happy, I was worried they'd drop Ike or Marth for Chrom instead. Robin was a wonderful surprise, I didn't expect to see them in there.

I'm happy with the lineup, I think they've got a good mix.

In terms of who I wanted in the game as a newcomer, well I had a top 50 most wanted character list and only got one of those characters playable. That said, the one character that did become playable was my 3rd most wanted, Little Mac, which is quite nice.

As for the overall roster, putting aside the lack of many of my wanted newcomers getting in, I'm disappointed in it for various other reasons. I'm disappointed in the return of clones after Brawl went about preventing this (there were semi-clones in Brawl, but not a single pure clone). I'm disappointed that returning semi-clones have not had further changes to further de-clone them, I'm disappointed in the amount of Mario and Kid Icarus reps we have, I'm disappointed in how transformations have been made into separate characters making for some messy inclusions (if they wanted to keep Sheik's move-set but wanted it as a separate character, they should have just added Impa), and I'm disappointed in just about everything regarding Mii Fighters.

Overall though, the one thing I'm most disappointed in is the removal of Ice Climbers. The loss of Wolf pains me as well, but the loss of Ice Climbers has made me livid.

There are some nice qualities to the roster, with unique entries such as Wii Fit Trainer and Duck Hunt Dog, and with 5 Nintendo series gaining playable representation in this SSB (Animal Crossing, Wii Fit, Punch-Out, Xenoblade, and Duck Hunt), but my grievances with the roster stand out a lot more in my mind.

I was hoping for a Tales of Symphonia character. The games are very liked, and they have good characters which would fit the Smash rooster. The characters are very varying also, so if they want another sword dude, like Ike/Marth or Link, then go with Kratos/Zelos or Lloyd. Then if they want a LittleMac type char, but still very different (more Captain Falco?) they would go with Regal and then the magic users are Sheena, Colette and Genis. So I was hoping at least one of those would appear.

Other than that I wasn't really hoping for anyone. I was speculating a lot on who might join. I was pretty happy that we got singular pokemons in stead of the trainer, didn't rally like him and then I thought Xenoblade would get a char. Which they did, I never just liked Shulk, should've been someone else, but then again he's the main char and the Monado brings a new element into the style of fighting.
There were a few surprises to say the least, WiiFitTrainer, Villager and PacMan. I think the "create a fighter" thing looks pretty cool too :)

I think the rooster looks pretty cool and it will be nice to play it with friends locally and then with my Escapist crew, from the WiiU Online Multiplayer user group.

The demo on the 3DS has got very good reviews so really looking froward to the full game on the console.

Yes to Shulk (really I was suprised by that announcement) but no to Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes. Honestly it's impossible for that to happens seeing how Suda 51 isn't really part of Nintendo or have close tied to since the game is now on other console.

No Travis, Bayonetta or Wonder Red makes me sad, but honestly the rest of the cast is strong and probably entertaining to play. Always going to be happy with Toon Link in the game so I can't really complain.

I was for hoping for Crash Bandicoot. I mean if Sony can't or won't put him in Playstation All Stars Battle Royale (why no sequel by the way), then maybe Nintendo can pick up the 3rd party character for some PS1 vs. N64 rivalry.

I'm okay with most of the selections. I was pleasantly surprised to see Wario return (what can I say, I like the greedy bastard), and the duck and dog from Duck Hunt looks great. At the very least it will allow me to finally beat the crap out of that damn mutt for laughing at me back in the day. Also, my main man Luigi gets a final smash that actually makes sense this time (though I'd be lying if I said I won't miss the psychedelic insanity of his Brawl final smash). It's also nice to see more costume variety, including full-blown character remodels for some of them. Including all seven Koopalings as Bowser Jr. model swaps was a stroke of genius. The inclusion of customizable Miis was a nice touch as well for those that want to expand the roster themselves.

That said, I'm somewhat disappointed to see the return of clone characters, especially since Sakurai made it sound like he was trying to reduce that sort of thing early in the game's development. Most of them seem like they would have been better implemented as model swaps for existing characters. I mean c'mon, does Dark Pit REALLY warrant a separate character slot? Also, the amount of representation for various franchises seems disproportionate. Why does an obscure series like Kid Icarus have a larger roster than Metroid?! The only clone I'm really looking forward to is Dr. Mario, and that's mainly because he uses the Down + B spin attack that Mario used to have.

Don't get me wrong, the game looks amazing and I can't wait to try it out. There's no better game series than Smash Bros. when you've got friends over, in my opinion.

I've hoped for Blaziken since Melee, but that does not seem likely to happen. Blaziken just doesn't seem all that relevant anymore. Then again, the way I envisioned it was to have it as a Captain Falcon clone, so perhaps that is for the best. Having Charizard as an individual character is pretty kickass though. Pokemon Trainer was an interesting character, but I guess it just wasn't practical (though Smash as a whole does not have to be). Granted, Mewtwo was one of the worst characters in Melee, but I feel like that could have easily been tweaked.

I do suppose I am also a bit salty about Mewtwo's exclusion. I blame it on Lucario's popularity; he is essentially a glorified Mewtwo clone. Plus with Mega Mewtwo being a thing, it seems like a missed opportunity (though of course Lucario also got a Mega evolution).

Hm. I'd have to stretch to think of anyone else.

The only character i've ever wanted to make an appearance in something is Gene from God Hand.
Yes he's a Capcom character, but so is Mega Man who is in the game.

I really hope God Hand isn't gone forever, i need a sign :(.

There are some characters that I would have liked to see but for the most part I?m happy with the roster, my biggest complaint is probably that ganondorf is still a clone, the thing that annoys me the most however is that the koopalings are alternate costumes for bowser jr, even overlooking the fact that I dislike the koopaling, I don?t understand why they appear in the game as alternate costumes and not lucas wolf chrom paper mario daisy(I don?t even like daisy) megaman x and roy.

I was really hoping for Ms Pacman as an alt for Pacman. 0/10. Would not buy.

In seriousness I'm pretty happy. I haven't played Smash Bros since the first one (and a very, very brief go at Melee) so obviously this is a vast improvement over the 12(?) playable characters in that game. There are a few I haven't even heard of. Mainly the ones who all look like the same person wearing various wigs (Marth, Robin, Lucina and Shulk). And when Shulk was first announced I was disappointed that it wasn't She Hulk, although that wouldn't make much sense anyway.

The Bowser Jr costumes are a nice addition. I have no idea how he plays though.

I still have no interest as playing as a Mii whatsoever no matter how much Nintendo tries to push it on me.

I was never that interested in playing as the various pokemon either.

I always thought Ridley from Metroid would be a nice fit. I know he's been in previous games as a boss but having him playable would be cool.

All that said I'm sure I'll spend plenty of time trying every single one of them out.

I'm satisfied with the lineup. It would've been cool to see Bayonetta or Travis Touchdown, but I knew that would never happen (Bayonetta does have a higher chance than Travis, though.)

Even so, I look forward to trying them all out.

Wolf was my favourite character, so that sucks. Also I don't know why they outsource to stuff like snake/megaman when they have other nintendo stuff they could use like bomberman, or banjo kazooie even.

Neither Bomberman or Banjo Kazooie is Nintendo property.

Disappointed at no Bayonetta or Wonder Red. Lineup itself is much of a muchness, although Mega Man is a nice surprise to play as.

Ike is still in so i'm happy.
Other than that i like the new Fire Emblem characters, and the villager is cool.
I honestly think they wasteda slot with Duck Hunt Dog or whatever hes called and like someone else said, i have no interest in using Mii characters.
Ice climbers and Lucas are a big loss though, and Wolf to an extent

In regard of first party characters I am pretty satisfied. Not that stoked about clone characters and I really want to see Midna, Isaac and Professor Layton playable, but overall it is a very solid roster.

In regard of third party characters, I am kinda bummed out Snake didn't return. Megaman is a fair trade-off though. Also would have killed for Banjo & Kazooie but Microsoft is still holding Rare hostage.
