Did You Like Watchmen's Movie Adaptation?

Yes, yes, the movie came out last year, but Watchmen was recently on CineMax and it re-sparked my interest in the film adaptation. I didn't see the movie when it came out, but it was on so I thought, what the hell. I watched it through, and then, watched it again when it came on. And then again OnDemand. I couldn't get enough of how well it was adapted. It seemed to me as if the graphic novel simply jumped out of the pages and landed into the screen. I loved it. And while, yes, there were some parts that I didn't like, such as the over-the-top and unnecessary sex scene between Dan and Laurie, I have to say it's one of the best films I've watched.

Which is why I was rather disappointed that it didn't receive high reviews. Sure, some critics gave it outstanding ratings, but the average lies around just that; average.

So, the question is, what did you think of the movie?

I have to point out, I also liked 300 and Dawn of the Dead. Perhaps I just love Zack Snyder?

If I hadn't read the novel I probably would have enjoyed the movie more. I'm such an Alan Moore fan though, and the movie didn't come any where close to making me feel the way the novel did. Same with From Hell and V for Vendetta. Book 1st and always.

I liked it a lot, i do prefer the directors cut which is about 3hrs long.

And yes i have read the comic, and i prefer the movie ending by far, the squid thing didn't really work for me.

I haven't fully read the novel yet and once i do i'll be able to make a proper comparison. For now i will say that i enjoyed the movie especially anything that Rorshach did such a loveable psychopath he is.

in my opinion, other than the giant squid thing at the end and the side story things like the comic book, i thought that the movie was pretty much the same
either way both were great in my opinion

Yes, but I also never read the graphic novel. There's also a director cut version, it has alot more content and goes into a little more detail with what is going on.

I liked it, only thing I was disappointed in was that the cause of the explosion wasn't the monster but instead something else, I wanted the monster!!

I liked it, read the graphic novel first by the way, and while I thought the film didn't even begin to stack up to the comic book, that didn't make it bad.

I did spend ages thinking about the ending in specific, and actually I think I prefer the book's ending, which I know will come as a surprise to some (though why you would think you might be able to guess my opinion is beyond me).

So all in all, I liked it, and I thought that it was a pretty faithful adaptation overall.

I loved it.

Of course people who didn't like it seemed to have read the Graphic Novel, so perhaps I'm not getting the sense of hatred that would come from a possible, shall we say 'Butchering' of the original Graphic Novel (Similar to how I actually enjoy Korn's Version of Word Up [And have never heard the original], whereas the rest of this site seems to hate it with a passion)

I actually really enjoyed it. I HATED Snyder's Dawn of the Dead with a burning passion that would make me spit on him if I saw him on the street. 300 was Christshittingly awful, though I didn't hate it quite as much as DotD.

Watchmen completely redeemed him for 300 (though not for the putrid shittiness of his remake of Dawn of the Dead), as it was well made, and captured the characters quite well. Jackie Earle Haley was excellent as Rorchach.

I loved the movie, and the "Tales of the Black Freighter" animated movie is just as good.

Alan Moore may be a ****, but he sure is a good storyteller.

It's a great example of how to take a brilliant graphic novel and successfully translate it to film while cutting or eliminating content that in all honesty probably wouldn't have worked in today's cinematic world (the whole SPOILER aliens END SPOILER thing would have felt really dated, although I still might have liked it better personally).

Anyway, my favorite superhero movie of all time. But that's not hard. Not in a world where the mindless popcorn action comedy Iron Man can claim my number 2 spot.

Oh, and I read the graphic novel first. And yeah it's better, but so what? It doesn't make the film suck more because there's a better version of the same story somewhere else. Besides, Watchmen has one of the best soundtracks in movie HISTORY, right up there with Death Proof and Goodfellas.

Read the novel. Prefer the movie. Between the wonderful opening credits, excising the retarded giant blue psychic octopus from space bit and culling the dull, masturbatory pirate tie-in, the movie was far more enjoyable for me.

I read the novel. While I do like the flow that the action scenes provide in movies, the novel had more development to it (they were missing a few Rorschach talking to the shrink scenes). The ending change didn't really affect the overall quality of the movie either, so that was good. The badass parts were more badass and the integrity of the story was conserved, so good job to them. I still prefer the novel though, just to argument's sake.

And the soundtrack was boss. Loved it.

To those two that you mention right up here, yes, I loved them because they were simple cheap thrills. 300 kind of brought the special effects industry up to where it is today.

Dawn of the dead was actually one of the better zzombie movies, next to 28 weeks later, and that movie was just fun.

As for Watchmen... I loved that movie. Zach Snyder took an amazing turn away from his usual MO which involved cheap but good comic book action adaptations to amazing and well written comic book translation. The result was quite frankly amazing. I read the comic book, and I thought he did it damn near perfect. It was literally the exact same as the book, just in movie form.

The ending was different, but I actually thought it was way more appropriate. Plus it was the same ending he had orignally used.

Most of the cast was meh, excluding Rorshack, Comedian, and Superman, but they didnt suck at least. In all reality, Zach Snyder stepped out of his comfort zone and succeeded, which cant be said for many directors.

Just watch moviebobs review, he nails it better than me.

Haveing read the novel after seeing the movie I like the movie better. The ending in the book was even weirder than what happen in the movie.
