I hadn't actually read the comic to which it was based so when I went in there, I was blown away. Of course having now read Watchmen I can see why people would consider the movie a disservice to the original, but still, I consider Watchmen the movie quite cool.

Saw the Film first, loved it. Mostly because I saw all the little things behind the characters, from the joke about being a superhero to the truth of the Comedian.

Still haven't read the comic.

I never read the comics, and the movie was ok. Dr. Manhattan is what killed it for me, as his character made no sense.

If I hadn't read the novel I probably would have enjoyed the movie more. I'm such an Alan Moore fan though, and the movie didn't come any where close to making me feel the way the novel did. Same with From Hell and V for Vendetta. Book 1st and always.
Can't say it much better then that. The movie was OK at best. I was most unhappy with the changes made.

I enjoyed it at the end a bit more than the book. Mostly I hated the book for the psychic vagina thing and the fact that Nite-Owl in his uselessness just lazily told of Ozymandias and went to go drill Laurie.

But seriously, it was way to long as a movie. I care about no subject so much that I want to sit on my ass for three hours without a piss break.

I loved the Watchmen movie. I thought it was an excellent adaptation of the classic comic series. The effects were great, the acting was spot on,and I had one of the best soundtracks of any movie I've ever seen. I miss the giant vagina monster though.

It is a flawed masterpiece. It does so much right I don't care about the little things. I really want to see the ultimate edition with deleted scenes and pirate story included.

I'd say only Dark Knight tops it for me in the comic book film realm.

I haven't read the novel, although I did enjoy the movie quite a bit, but I simply have to ask; what magical space octopus?

I saw the movie before reading the book, and I think the movie is about as close as they could have reasonably made it. I should watch the movie agai to see if my opinion changes.

That's why you had to have read the comic. The movie doesn't seem to delve too much into Dr. Manhattan's character, not as much as the comic at least. The comic depicts Jon as a flawed God. He knows all, yet cannot share his knowledge. He sees all, but fails to show. He is forced to relive his past failures, experience his present vices, and see his future mistakes before they even happen. I don't think the movie did enough justice to Osterman, and that's one of my only disappointments in the movie.

Also, something a lot of people have brought up: the ending. The squid-monster ruined the almost realistic events of the novel in my opinion, and the atomic explosion in the movie worked more in real terms. I preferred this ending.

Another thing: The soundtrack was simply amazing.

The movie was my first taste of the Watchmen franchise, and I was underwhelmed. It was good, but not as good as I believed it was going to be after reading/hearing about it.

Nope. Thought it was a less-than-average movie that got carried through the box office by a wave of loyal fans.

I saw the movie without having read the book, and I thought it was pretty good. Not great, but cool and worth watching with my friends who were watchmen fans.

Meh movie though I am tempted to see the like 17 hour cut. On the topic of alan moore stuff turned into movies the worst is League of extraordinary gentlemen (everyone should watch it purely as a masterclass of horrible decisions and shitty, shitty, SHITTY movie making) while the best was Constantine (there was a lot to like about that movie(it has shia lebeouf but it was before he became a hollywood douche)).
