Dagger loses her voice. It's just such an annoying plot device that happens just to create cheap romantic tension between her and Zidane.
Really? I thought that happened because of

the combination of losing her mother, her kingdom getting destroyed before her eyes, and the fact that she blames herself for all that despite the fact she couldn't do anything to prevent any of that from happening.

I'm not a fan boy or anything, I just think you may have missed the point of that particular part of the game.

It's the only game I played where a dragon fought a castle and the castle won by way of AWESOME FIREWORKS!!!!

No, I understood all of that, and just realize it's my opinion. But I believe it would've been loads better for her character to have actually overcome that instead of
going mute. I'm not an expert but from what I've been lead to believe just going mute because of mental trauma isn't very probable. It's one thing to not WANT to speak, but since the game gives indications of her trying, this isn't the case. Then again, this is just my opinion. Like I said, I still liked FF9 a lot.

I think Final Fantasy 9 is my second favorite Final Fantasy game. I like it because it goes back the the more steampunk vs. magic setting of older games rather than a more Sci-Fi story like FF7. The Music is just great, the fact that the battle theme sounds like a remix of the original is a neat little addition. Also Zidane is my favorite FF character, mostly because he's more in it for fun and adventure rather than moping about like other characters in the series. However it loses points for Quina, Armarant's Dread-fro, and Kuja. As much as I like FF9, 6 just feels like a much more refined game.

Its not my favorite Final Fantasy, but I do enjoy it... I certainly like it a lot more then 8 or 10. It has some of the best art directing of any Final Fantasy since Amono left as lead artist.

I liked FF9. I love FF 1-6 and I absolutely hate 8, 10, 11, 10x2, 12, 13, and 14. 7 was -okay-, despite having probably the worst main character ever. Come to think of it , Red XIII and Cid were the only two characters in 7 that didn't make my head throb. Anyway, FF9 reminded me somewhat of the old school FFs, which is probably why I liked it so much.

Other then the Limit break system (which I can live with) I still think it's the best FF ever. And I really do like X-2 it's my second favorite. It got a lot of flack for the girl-power thing, but i love the job system and it was such a fun game.

I totally respect your opinion don't worry about that.

I will admit though that,

throughout the part in the game when Dagger is mute, it is pretty annoying when she can't concentrate in battle. Especially in very crucial moments.

Me: Shit! We're low on HP! Dagger heal us!

*Selects cura, selects all*

"Dagger can't concentrate."

Me: FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU...."

I love 9's medieval/steampunk theme it reminds me of the old final fantasys and as you can see from my avatar I love the old style white/black mage themes and suchlike :) The protagonist Zidane was a breath of fresh air after Cloud and Squall and the storyline was serious but hopeful. I like 7 a little better for its materia system and depth of exploration and gameplay I think but 9 is definately more my taste when it comes to theme and storyline.

Oh and it has lots of moogles :3

IX was my first and favorite in the series.

Kuja actually felt like a threat throughout the entire game, unlike Barthandelus of XIII.

FFVII is my favourite of the series, but I really enjoyed IX as well - it was a bit more light hearted than the previous ones, and had a lot of nostalgia to it, with the return of black mages and all. Good story, too.

Though Quina freaked me out a little. Alright, a lot.

I was never able to finish it, but I really liked the setting and the characters. And eventhough it did have the stereotypical FF characters, they felt like their own person and not simply love interest #1 or 2.

No, and not in a million years. I actually liked FF8 all the better, because it seemed more appropriate for the western community. The characters in Final Fantasy 9 drove me absolutely bonkers. Final Fantasy - "Kindergarden Edition".

i LOVED it! im not saying it was the best in the series (i'll always be one of 'those' FF7 fanboys) but it was a great game. In my opinion IX was the last great Final Fantasy. I never liked anything from X on. I spent most of my childhood playing VI,VII,VIII and IX so those four are the best for me and i'd recommend any of them.....*cough* especially VII! *cough*

I tried out FF9 as one of few FF games (The others being FF-X and FFX-2).

Out of the ones I tried I felt that it was the best one. It was the only one I stuck with until real life called me away. I wasn't all that good at it but it seemed interesting enough. Might continue it at one point even.

Never liked FFIX, the characters looked like they were dragged from Kingdom hearts, which has to be the most rediculous gaming series in existance.

Woaaah, wait, what? When does that happen?

He was still alive even at the very end if my memory serves me correctly...

Everyone I know thinks FF9 is the best so the idea that people mostly don't like it seems odd to me. although I don't actually like it myself.

some people came up with the theory that the icicle attack killed squall, it changes the game if you think of it that way but its not official cannon. Squall does live to the end of the game officially.

Ok this is something that I think needs to be said. Final Fantasy games should NOT be compared to each-other. They are not the same games from game to game and are hardly comparable in any sense beyond preference. That being said, I did like Final Fantasy 9. It was a wonderful game with challenging gameplay, the graphics don't feel dated and the characters were varied and interesting.
