The 'Finding Nemo' game was ridiculously hard. It has a learning curve of a brick wall, and was one of the most punishing games I've played in a long time.

Oh... and it was a horrible horrible game... the first level was ok though.

As was Dixie Kong's Double Trouble.
It's was actually the easiest of the DKC trilogy...

I only had one game over.

I had a ton with DKC 1 and another ton with no.2.
Odd. I always found the levels after the second boss battle (the spider I believe it was) to be ridiculous in terms of difficulty.

Diddy Kong Racing.
It's easy in the beginning, but some of those levels just get annoying while going for the silver coins.

First off, causal games, not kiddie, second they are designed with the intention of being difficult. Its like a puzzle vs a word problem. A puzzle is often consider to be for people of lesser intellect and word problems are considered to be for people of higher intelligence, however have you ever tried to solve a puzzle? it takes a long time, its not exactly hard but time consuming, word problems are often hard, but fast. Same principles apply to games.
Saying that all kiddie games are casual is kind of silly. Ever played Bignose the Caveman? That's a kiddy game. It's also fucking impossible and only the most fervent players can get past level three.
To Clarify: When I say "kiddie," I mean kid friendly games in terms of content, or who they are intended to appeal to. Disney games and Mario are good examples. Loveable cartoony characters but the game is a real challenge.

Also, when I say difficult, I mean actually challenging as opposed to poorly designed. I don't count a badly designed game as challenging. The difficulty there is unintentional (or maybe not)

IMHO: Battletoads is a great example of a game that is both extremely challenging, but is badly designed. The gameplay itself is great, but seriously, only 3 continues! Take off the continue limit cap and that game would have rocked.

Crash Bandicoot

BUT I STILL LOVE IT!

only the classic ones though

DAMN YOU TRAVELERS TALES!!!
They did bugger the whole lot up. Such gems the ruined.

I remember getting properly angry when I couldn't finish Crash 3. I got it in the end, however.

New Super Mario Bros Wii is kicking my ass currently.
Is it just me or do the controls feel a bit 'slippery'?
I'd have to agree, 7th World castle. Kept fucking up at the boss area. Had to do it like 20 times till I got it.
It's ridiculous. I don't recall the one for the DS being like that.

Hm....
If...Kingdom Hearts counts, there's been plenty of times I've gotten stuck. All other "kiddie" games I've gotten I've beaten with no problem.

Or just Solitaire on Windows Vista. It's so rigged, man!

The Lion King on the Sega Megadrive. Holy crap. I had to do level cheats to get past that Simba's Exile level. It was ridiculously hard, to say it was based wholly on the Disney film, haha.
Wow, I was going to say something completely different until I saw this. that stampede level totally kicked my ass from here to the wall like a million times.

Haha, tell me about it. I can't believe how long that level took to complete, me and my family all took it in turns, and it took more than several attempts before it was beaten.

Imagine my horror when I got to the next level, and discovered it was as excruciatingly difficult. A game has never made me want to destroy the controller so hard ever since.

Banjo and kazooie nuts and bolts. Its pretty complicated when you start, and later you can create some really complex stuff. It all matters how you play it. Attaching 4 wheels to anything still works though....

My point about Bignose the Caveman stands.

"Adult" games are generally easy as fuck. Gears of war? what a boring game. Now SUPER MONKEY BALL - hot damn, THAT'S a difficult game.
I do think that's because they know kids won't go on a killing spree after losing seventy-hyperbollilion times; It's all in good fun to them. To us the game just seems like a dick.
Maybe I'm a masochist :p
It just feels amazing finally beating a really hard part or level. In Gears of War I never encountered a hard part or level. THOUGH I didn't play on insane, which I heard was... well, insane.
Eh I beat it solo on insane and only died a few times, its not that bad, insane was a snooze fest for the most part

gotta agree with the pokemon rescue ranger for gameboy

wasn't a bad game over all, but the end game dungeons were just unforgivable, 100 floor dungeons with no items and level 1 pokemon, with the pokemon on the dungeon leveling up ridicusly fast just so you could have a small chance at a rare pokemon Celebi I think was one of em

The original Crash Bandicoot had some really tough levels. I only made it about halfway through the game as a kid, actually. I wonder if it would be any easier now.
Truth. That was a crazy hard game.

The original Spyro was pretty tough in its last few worlds, too.

Lego Batman.

I couldn't even get past Clayface. Why? He stands on a fucking cage and I couldn't figure out how to reach or damage him at that point so that "kiddie" game can fuck right off in my "never playing again" corner of my drawer.
Pity, I've heard it's most excellent.

On topic. Maybe you're just bad?

To be less of a bastard I'd say try lowering the difficulty or being more cautious and careful.

It did have some difficult moments, and finding all 80 dragons as well as all of the gems was impossible for me as a kid!

But time has made me better at that game, so I wonder if the same would go for Crash.

Anyone ever play Crash Bandicoot XS for gameboy advance?
I could never get the relics. Now I understand they were supposed to be challenging by their nature, but they were just excessive.

Wonder if I could manage it now though?
