Hi all,

I have recently gone back and tried to finish Super Mario Sunshine for the gamecube.

I noticed that I keep getting owned in the platforming levels and dying quite alot. Since game overs/extra lives don't really mean anything in the game it isn't such a big deal, but I thought this was supposed to be a "kiddie" game. SMS is alot harder than a bunch of the more adult themed games I've played

Does anyone else have any games which seem pretty lightweight or kid friendly, but they turn out to be even more challenging than the games for adults?

Lego Batman.

I couldn't even get past Clayface. Why? He stands on a fucking cage and I couldn't figure out how to reach or damage him at that point so that "kiddie" game can fuck right off in my "never playing again" corner of my drawer.

I don't really play kiddie games, so I wouldn't know. Actually, my sister, notorious for being able to pick out the worst game from any collection, bought some shitty sonic hoverboard racing game, and I couldn't beat the first level on easy. The control was so fucked up I could barely move without hitting a wall.

I 100% agree, I bought a bunch of Lego games for my little cousins who are 9 and 12, and every other day they have to call me over to help them past a certain part because they can't figure it out, hell half the time I have no clue wtf to do.

First off, causal games, not kiddie, second they are designed with the intention of being difficult. Its like a puzzle vs a word problem. A puzzle is often consider to be for people of lesser intellect and word problems are considered to be for people of higher intelligence, however have you ever tried to solve a puzzle? it takes a long time, its not exactly hard but time consuming, word problems are often hard, but fast. Same principles apply to games.

The Lion King on the Sega Megadrive. Holy crap. I had to do level cheats to get past that Simba's Exile level. It was ridiculously hard, to say it was based wholly on the Disney film, haha.

I blame the developers' attitude in games like those. Apparently the gameplay is so simple that we should easily be able to figure out everything without any sort of hint or direction yet in those kind of situations our prior experience with the game doesn't apply. I mean honestly!!, the game has you use denotators for half the level and yet at that boss fight they didn't seem to break the cage or anything like that, didn't find any way to knock him off the damn cage either.

Is it just me or do the controls feel a bit 'slippery'?
I'd have to agree, 7th World castle. Kept fucking up at the boss area. Had to do it like 20 times till I got it.

The original Crash Bandicoot had some really tough levels. I only made it about halfway through the game as a kid, actually. I wonder if it would be any easier now.

It took me an entire day to finaly beat bowser. [sub]So many deaths[/sub]

Although in hindsight it probably was because i tried playing it with my cousin and sister and they kept jumping on my head and killing me on accedent.

OT: A bugs life for the N64 and any lego game.
