Difficulty

It used to be: Start on Normal then see how it goes. Except for MGS2. European Extreme for me baby!

Since recent games have gotten way easier (or I have gotten better) I usually start on Hard with the possibility to try the super hard setting.

I go for Normal difficulty. If I finish a game on Normal difficulty I'm happy with what I've achieved.

Normal then hard, then hardest.

I can finish most shooters on the hardest setting, but I suck at turn based or RPG combat like Dragon Age.

I usually play one easy or normal, and will occasionally move on to hard if I feel like I need a little more of a challenge. It's mostly because I don't care much about achieving anything, I just want to unwind and enjoy myself while taking in the story.

Normal then I'll step it up to Hard once I'm up to it.

I usually beat the game once on hard (or medium if I ever get stuck), just to experience the story without being repeatedly killed at a tough part of the game, because if that happened I would probably quit the game and never end up beating it.

If I like the game then I play it a second time on the hardest difficulty because I have already beat it and I wouldn't really care if I get to an impossible section.

Normal, because I can almost guarantee that it will be neither too difficult for me to get through, nor so easy it is embarrassing. Sometimes, I regret not starting on hard, but better I get to play through the game and still have fun, even if its not much of a challenge, then get frustrated right of the bat. Praise to games that let you change difficulty in mid game, so I don't have to restart if I want to get a proper difficulty.

Start on normal, then after that if I haven't just rented the game, hard.

I like to play war games on hard. But for strategies and fictional fps's, I usually play it on normal or medium.

Almost always start on normal, unless achievements are stackable then i'll try the hardest (e.g MOH: Airbourne).

Normal, then hard (generally). I use normal to get a feel for the game first, then hard to really challenge myself.

However, I suck at fighters, so I usually start on easy.

I play on easy mode, if it has one, on my first run through a game, then I move up through the ranks. I also usually keep a save file of the easy run through for trophy whoring.

I always do my first playthrough on normal mode, then any subsequent playthroughs I tend to go on the harder difficulties.
