It seems that every single copy of the PC version of Assassin's Creed III bound for store shelves in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg was being shipped in a single truck. And that truck has been stolen by criminals.

According to this report from Dutch industry site EB, the theft took place on November 14. While Ubisoft claims the game's launch this week won't be affected, with new stock sourced from elsewhere, it has affected customers who preordered the limited "Join or Die" edition of the game, as this can't be re-manufactured.

While Ubisoft has passed on the barcodes and serial numbers of the stolen games to retailers, and has blacklisted those same numbers from its online authentication servers, you'd imagine the thieves knew exactly what they were doing. It's not like getting around PC DRM is the hardest thing in the world for people to do, criminals or not.

So, that must really suck as to have ordered the collectors edition in those countries.

At least there's the normal edition?

No where did they say the thieves were dirty! I was rooting for homeless thieves to make money!

OT: Eh , at least no one died? It's just a game , could be a lot worst . Now , had i pre-ordered it , and was unable to get it , i would not only ask for my money back , but request a free version of the standard game . Or threaten to never pre-order from whatever store again .

Well, all of my bros over in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg can rest assured knowing that they are not missing much.

This was probably the least satisfying AssCreed game of any of them.

this is actually quite hilarious, mostly due o the fact that every single copy was on the same truck, for 3 countries, must have been a big truck.

Yeah, that is quite astounding. For one country it's somewhat understandable but 3? At least they won't do it again.

Obligatory...

Glad I never go for special editions, otherwise I would've been shit out of luck.

Holland, Belgium, and Luxemburg aren't really that big when combined.

What the hell are the thieves going to do with a few hundred copies of Assassins Creed III? Sit on a throne of generic, slightly-above-average videogames?

Sounds real fun!

I'd imagine they'd just fling disks at anyone they didn't like. Giving out free games and pain at the same time.

The thing that stands out most in the OP is the fact that the complete amount of videogames shipped to three combined countries were able to fit inside a single truck.

Luxemburg is hardly a country though. Having said that, I wish I could claim to live there...

The combined population of Belgium, Luxembourg and Netherlands is about 27.5 million, so I'd wager they got a little bit more than a few hundred copies.

They'll probably build a fort out of them.

those 3 countries put together are about as big as 1 american state though, luxembourg alone is about half the size of new jersey

who was the dip shit that though putting them all on the same truck was a good idea? not even cause of theft reasons, just logistically.

who ever it was, pretty sure they won't do it again

It wasn't the country's size that made me astounded, it was the fact that all their copies of the special edition was on one truck; it just seems rather silly.

actually, now that i think about it, it is rather strange, its not like there is big distribution center or anything. Suppose they could have hijacked a truck coming straight from the docks in France.
