Disappointing Sequels

On several occasions I have bought the first edition of a game and become addicted to it. Later on I would buy the sequel to the game only to find the game has become wrapped up in graphics or just lost all the fun of the original. One such game for me would be the Neverwinter Nights series. I loved the first 1 and managed to play my way through most of the expansions for it and I got Neverwinter Nights 2 hoping it would be just as good if not better. I was disappointed when I found out that I could only play it for a short while before getting bored. The quests were boring and it was too easy to get money early on. The graphics and character creation was better but the game as a whole was worse and not as addictive as the first one. Ive found this with a few other games e.g Age Of Empires Series etc. Does anyone else have games with sequels like this?

Half Life 2 =/ its nowhere near as good as HL1
I would say, that HL2 is far superior compared to HL1.

Anyway, most disappointing one is HoMM4, nowhere as good as third title. Coming to think of it, HoMM5 wasn't much better (yep, I'm waiting for new King's Bounty).
Also, what happened to Rayman? It was fun, until these damned Rabbids taken over the whole game >.>

Halo 2 springs to mind. After the general excellence of the original, Bungie made a new game and added... absolutely nothing spare dual wielding and a few new enemies and vehicles. It was boring as hell.

NWN2 suffered from not being made by either Bioware or FloodGate :( I still hold Hordes of the Underdark up as the best RPG experience out there

NWN2 wasnt all bad though, if your a relentlessly critical 3.5e DM that is :p

Lol yeah it wasnt "that" bad but comparing that to the first NWN it fails miserably. I'm still addicted to it and always go back for more. O found that on NWN2 the start was far to slow and the story was a bit all over the place until later on when you have to get the boat to Neverwinter. After 10 hours-ish of gameplay I just gave up on it which is dissapointing because I would have liked to see it through until the end but I just couldn't. It seems a lot slower than the first aswell.

Hey, 3 was good. Ok they cut out all the blood in the localization which destroyed some of the most dramatic scenes in the game, but beside that it was good.

How... How can you say such a thing?

Anyways, Halo 2 gets my choice...

It technically wasn't a sequel but it came out after Res Evil on the Gamecube. Resident Evil Zero, rather disappointing

Devil may Cry 2 for one. But then again who wasn't. Also Final Fantasy X-2. While I liked the battle system, everyone else was just meh, story wasn't all that interesting, was just a chick flick.

Halo 2, since it was just Halo: Combat Evolved, except with duel wielding, a few new enemies and one of the worst cliff hanger endings I've ever seen.

KOTOR 2, which was awesome...right up until the last forty-five minutes.

I'm going to say Hellgate: London, since it's a spiritual successor to Diablo 2, and a terrible game.

Splinter Cell: Double Agent. It just couldn't match the glory that was Chaos Theory....and they messed up the multiplayer.
