All the troopers were these clones, at least until RotJ.
The Stormtroopers were not clones in the first movie, evidenced by varying heights between different troopers. Plus you have the difference in armor between clonetroopers and stormtroopers.
They certainly didn't feel like they were supposed to all be clones, especially when I originally saw the OT, back in the day- I didn't even know there could have been clones in the series, back then. Again, it felt like the decision to designate the stormtroopers as clones (or even a later generation of clones) seems to have come about, as EvilTheCat mentioned, to retcon the origins of the forces across the old movies, too - I, too, can clearly see the size differences of troopers in the original trilogy, but there it is.

The difference in armor was just advancing tech, I assumed.

Clones could shoot the wings off a fly. Stormtroopers can't aim to save themselves.

Ever since the MCU really took off it seems to me that a lot of people consider a movie a flop if it doesn't earn over a billion dollars, regardless of production cost.
Well, to a certain extent there's a point to be made here that box office numbers don't necessarily go towards production costs. For example, Ready Player One cost $130 million to make, but we know that its break even point for sales was actually $440 million.

But we do know that Oceans 8 was a success. All the statistics we have indicate that it met or exceeded its projected costs and was a modest to medium success. A huge amount of that money Ready Player One needed to make back was recouping the marketing budget, which literally cost as much as the film itself.

its not their fault their targets have plot armor
They were pretty accurate when not being ordered to let the heroes go.

Man I looked up that exact clip and came back here to post it. "Only Imperial Storm Troopers are so precise" lol.

Also the "too accurate for Sand People", cut to Episode 1 where the Sand People sniped a podracer at full speed.
