Steampunk =/= Steam Powered

From what I understand, steampunk is basically science fiction as conceived from a victorian perspective, which means that steam-powered gadgetry is common, but not necessary.

Actually Steampunk is dependent on things powered by steam.

Bethesda is doing a large amount of work here?

So we should expect the game to crash often, and require fan made patches to even run at a suitable level? And PS3 users are screwed?

Arkane [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arkane_Studios] is making this game. Bethesda is publishing it.

And while the game isnt technically steampunk, it does have a steampunk aesthetic. People respond to the aesthetic more than what happens to power things.

I hate the first person camera angle so, so much. That's not what a normal person's field of vision looks like.

The slogan sounds like the sort of stupidly macho crap that appeals to ten year old boys, so I'm going out on a limb and saying this is going to be another badly written wank-fest. The visuals look good but I'm not really expecting anything more than passable plot-wise, and I think I'm being optimistic with that.

And how many opening cinematics are there going to be that involve a burly, shirtless man receiving some sort of brand/tattoo/mark and going "grrr burr hurr" as if he really needs to scratch his taint but can't get through his jeans.

But seriously, I'm intrigued but not excited, Ive learnt enough about expecting things from trailers only to be horribly horribly crushed.

It looks a bit to much like Assassins Creed to me :/ I really like the Steampunk idea though that's cool. I love stealth games so I hope it's actually a stealth game and not just a combat game with parkour.

Edit, watched the video above and it sounds like you can have some degree of stealth so that's nice.

I'm tired of the stupid crap that passes as writing in video games. "Revenge solves everything"? No, it doesn't. Of all the ways they could have phrased the slogan and retained the same basic sentiment, they had to write it the way that would piss me off the most. They didn't even spell honour properl- FUCK YOU SPELLCHECKER. It does too have a "u" in it.

The parkour plus the theme...gah this looks freaking awesome. The implied Nazi-fighting...it's like the good parts of Wolfenstein plus Bioshock plus the good parts of Brink/Mirror's Edge. Hopefully.

It's new IP so I'm waiting in great anticipation for it. Any new AAA IP is worth listening to even if I don't end up playing it. It's nice to see developers make something other than sequels for a change.

I do remember reading an interview that it's missions structured just like Hitman: Blood Money. Every level is a mini-sandbox for the player to approach on every possible angle. Also, judging by the people involved(Harvey Smith and Arkane) I bet it'll lean more towards the stealth side of things instead of the man-slaughter side, although you totally have the option to do that either.

That's pretty much what I thought of it as well.

When that bit came on, my impression was: "Oh look, another game that thinks I'm an idiot."

Having said that, I've learned never to trust trailers, be they good or bad. Until I see some proper gameplay, as well as some hints to what the story will be, I'm not going to write-off Dishonored just yet.
