Dieselpunk it is most certainly not as that would mean it was a subgenre of DecoPunk (like Bioshock) and set in style terms between the first and second world wars.

If anything this comes across as Clockpunk or Teslapunk. Infact the devs said the city was based off London during the bubonic plague (1666 I think may have been the year they used for reference) so this would make the setting timewise closer to Clockpunk as Teslapunk tends to be 18th-20th and Steampunk tends to fall under 1837-1910 (The Victorian era).

OT: This game has been on my radar for a while so enjoyed the trailer and looking forward to some gameplay (though journalists have apprently seen some at closed doors events)

Certainly will be keeping an eye on this. Thanks for flagging it up!
Also, you spelt the title wrong in the thread title, and you could change that...

Well this thread has gone off the rocker.

I first criticized this trailer for not showing gameplay, however I realized I holding a double-standard cause I loved the Deus Ex Human Revolution trailer despite it showing no gameplay.

So I realized my problem with the trailer is that it was just uninteresting. Story of revenge and oppressive governments need something to back them up rather than just having pretty pre-rendered visuals. It's like they are showing off what they want the gameplay to be without showing us what they've done.

I really hope it's not like the CGI trailer being completely bad ass and the actual game not worth the hype.

Look at Dead Island.

Also I like Steampunk. Hence my username.
Everything from the trailer has been talked about in previous interviews and written about from demoed previews. In fact, I'm pretty sure the freeze time/shoot with crossbow thing was something which a play-tester discovered at random.

I was excited until I saw the first person scenes. Then I just lost all interest.
The lead designer of Deus Ex is co-lead designing another immersive sim, and you blow it off because it's first-person?

[sub]In truth, this picture just makes me laugh still. Any excuse.[/sub]

Yes. It's almost like the very nature of first person games is enough to prevent me from being "immersed" or even interested.

Why do I have a feeling your argument would fall flat if it was done in a format you disliked.

I have yet to be presented with a game which has attempted to woo and immerse me through interpretative dance, and so such a theory cannot yet be tested.

That's pretty much what I thought of it as well.

"Killing me won't solve anything!"
"Revenge solves everything."

When that bit came on, my impression was: "Oh look, another game that thinks I'm an idiot."

Having said that, I've learned never to trust trailers, be they good or bad. Until I see some proper gameplay, as well as some hints to what the story will be, I'm not going to write-off Dishonored just yet.
I got the sense it was meant to be somewhat ironic, instead of "this line sounds cool". I mean, murdering your way to innocence never goes brilliantly, does it? It seems pretty self-aware.

to me the game looks like a mash up of HL2, Assassins Creed, bioshock and Mirrors Edge.

looks like a winner to me

Mirror's Edge + Thief? Sold.

Too bad it isn't open world though. That would have sent anticipation to stratospheric levels.

Isn't this technically cyberpunk?
Only in so far as that Steampunk and other punk are all sub/spinoff genres of cyberpunk

Check my other post for a better breakdown or this link: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.371112-Dishonered?page=3

How does seeing things through your characters eye, like... I dont know... you do in real life, prevent you form being immersed.

If anything floating 5-10 feet above your character looking down like in third person games should be the most immersion breaking.

Something that excited me was a single blurb: "A no kill playthrough is possible"

Now, I'm probably not going to do that (maybe once just to see if I can) but even if that doesn't interest you it does say something really good about this type of game: multiple ways to approach each situation. You know that thing Deux Ex HR tried to do but kinda failed at? Yeah, that, but done well, is something I really love in games like this. Emphasis on done well.

It's new IP so I'm waiting in great anticipation for it. Any new AAA IP is worth listening to even if I don't end up playing it. It's nice to see developers make something other than sequels for a change.
Also this.

Just to be that guy, none of that proves that those games are a buggy mess. Having completed Hunted myself I cannot remember a single bug, let alone a serious game-breaking one.

It'd probably be more difficult to find a non-obscure title that doesn't have any bug videos, screenies or reports online.
