After seeing that Dishonored advert pop up every time I watch a video here for the past week, I've been inspired to dust off some of the old Assassin's Creed games. The fact that they're 75% off on Steam right now might also be a contributing factor...

Anyone else going through some Ass Creed and/or stealth game nostalgia right now?

Also, I'm really confused about the choice of song for the Dishonored advert...seriously, Drunken Sailor? Creepy and atmospheric, yes, but does it figure into the plot of the game somehow? The vocalist also sounds like he/she is singing "whaler" instead of "sailor"...

I should probably stop writing sentences that trail off...

Dunno if I did that right. Anyway, yeah...I don't think I'd call AC a stealth series all things considered.

It definitely isn't JUST a stealth game, but certainly incorporates stealth game play elements.

The song is actually Drunken Whaler, Arkanes in-universe version of Drunken Sailor. The reason that song is used is because the game is in an alternate universe where Whale Oil is the major power source in use.

As for stealth games, I'm currently replaying L.A. Noire but when I'm done I'll be picking up Dishonored for my 3rd playthrough. I really like the game, but after two consecutive playthroughs I felt that I needed a break ;)

I recently ( few months ago ) replayed the entire AC series after getting the pack from steam. I had played AC 1 and 2 on 360 but replayed all of them on the pc. So no, no sense in jumping back.

I am looking forward to 20/11/12 when my freedom edition comes in for PC. yes, i chose to wait 3 weeks to get the pc version, and yes its sucks balls we still get delayed pc games, but oooh shiney! Beside from what i have seen i think having the "option" of higher graphical settings will actually do the game justice as its looking remarkably good!

And for nostalgia, i recently started fallout 2 again.

Every time somebody mentions Dishonored I die inside because I want it so much but I can't afford it and sadface. :(

I've replayed most of the Assassin's Creed series a few times (with the exception of Brotherhood because I don't actually own it), and it still makes me giggle every time a sharp pointy thing goes into the man's skull.

I love the stealth play in dishonored, but I really wish they had more options for non-lethal in combat. Maybe use a club instead of sword to knock people out before running away. Just please, give me another option besides using expensive ammo or a choke-hold!

Dishonored can be whatever you want it. Assassin's creed is more like a 50-50 split off. It DOES have Stealth qualities, but it also has action qualities.

Very much this. The non-lethal options pretty much require you to be undetected, otherwise, you only have 10 sleep darts, at maximum, as a sort of cushion. And that's if you don't need them to simply knock someone out at a distance, or if you got the Combat Sleep Darts upgrade.

But, to be more on topic, I traded in my Assassins Creed games not to long ago. Not because I didn't like them, but because I lost interest in the series. They were great, but Dishonored scratches my stealth game itch much better.

Assassin's Creed was never what you call stealth. It's, like other people said, a 50-50 split between that and action. Dishonored can be played Thief style or AC style; you chose in Dishonored, whereas AC has the 50-50 split.

But I love AC for that reason and excuse me while I go boot up Brotherhood.

I don't really consider AC stealth but I did break out Deus Ex Human Revolution to play again. I loved dishonored and I am going to play another ghost non=lethal play through.

Assassin's Creed does have stealth qualities, but they are not a major focal point of the game. I'd say it's a platformer, action and stealth game in increments of 50:40:10 compared to games like Deus Ex, Thief, and Hitman which incorporate larger focuses on stealth.

Either way the trailers make me want to bring out Thief, Hitman and Deus Ex. Luckily, I bought Dishonored first day so I get to play around in that for a new experience. While I feel the nostalgia, I'm definitely enjoying the new.

Just wait for a sale.

Dishonored is WAY too short for 60 bucks. Don't make the same mistake I did.
Quite a few people have told me it's really short.

Shame, since it seems like an amazing game. Baby steps, though, I suppose.

I actually disagree with Ultratwinkie. The games main campaign is fairly short, true, but it makes up for quantity with quality. Extremely well designed and detailed levels, numerous methods of play and replay, as well as multiple endings.

I bought the game full priced and don't regret it in the slightest. Reminds me of Max Payne 2, another game I'd consider 'short but sweet'.

Funny you put Assassin's Creed and stealth in the same sentence, because you know, there is literally no real stealth elements in the game

I really cant get into Ass Creed or any 3rd person game like that. I always found it strange that so many people hate first person platforming..but...I HATE 3rd person platformer..its always way too easy by the addition of the 3rd person camera..its almost like cheating.

But ya...Im going through my stealth phase..probably going to go through the Thief games soon.

I'm waiting for mods that give us more non-lethal stuff, hopefully there will be some among the reskins of Corvo to look like Garrett, Ezio and Agent 47 (which I'm sure will be the first mods to appear).

My nostalgic game that was inspired by Dishonoured is a really weird one - Rome: Total War. I can't explain it, I was playing Dishonoured and I suddenly thought "Ya know, Spartan hoplites were pretty kickass... Imma go play Greek Cities!" Sadly I can't find the disk...
