I would drink heavily. On second thought, that may make it sting if it gets in to the wound...um, try a mix drink through a straw I guess.

Watch a really deep film. Or a really violent, action packed one. I also heard that causing pain elsewhere on the body can distract you from the major pain. So take a road flare, and STICK THAT ***** IN YOUR ARM.
"STICK THAT ***** IN YOUR ARM."

I think I may have just idolized you for that.

Well, I broke my leg once, which was accompanied by muscle spasms. 2 bits of broken bone grinding together.

They gave me a PS2 (which at the time was like, near brand new) and a fuckload of morphine :)

My advice? Go score some morphine from your local pharmacy. I don't know how you'd do that, but Prince of Persia is the hardest game ever while droped up to your eyeballs in the hospital....

Alcohol + harder alcohol.

Or you could take my route - go to the sink and bleed the infection out with a knife.

Or both.

I just about fell out of my chair laughing.
I just fell out of my chair. After trying it.

It's slightly disturbing the amount of people that appear to be trying to get me to kill myself in numerous ways. Don't get me wrong, it'd stop the pain but I don't think I'm quite there yet.

Watch all of the TF2 "Meet the Team" videos. That'll eat up about 10 minutes.

Play Portal.

i watched Lilo and Stitch, and the sequel, last night for some reason. That's not a bad idea either.

I'm fairly certain a root canal (or two according to the emergency dentist I saw) is in the works, bloody BLOODY teeth.

Go watch every Star Wars or Pokemon movie in a row.
I just came home from a star wars maraton! and hell does that takes your mind of everything that is wrong :D
Does that include Jar Jar in any way? I'm not sure I could survive teeth issues and him at the same time.Peroxide.
We were talking about the funniest ways to murder him during the movies. We decided to feed him a termal detonator set of to blow after an hour. and then feed Jar-Jar to a rancor. first he gets eaten, then blown to shreds.

Hello fellow Escapists!

Long story short, I have a massive infection in my gum causing large amounts of hurt and painkillers aren't able to do much more than take the edge off at the moment (I can't see the dentist until tomorrow so options are a tad limited).
You have my every sympathy as I'm going through the same thing right now! Thankfully I'm already on antibiotics but they aren't working yet. I'm using the strongest painkillers I can find and it's taking the edge off a little.
The only other thing I'd advise (even though it's a no brainer) is just keep busy. Play a game or something that will require a lot of thinking. Watching TV doesnt really require a lot of thought so that's not really good enough :(

I hope you feel better soon x

Well, if I were to suggest a witty webcomic, my choice would definately be xkcd. Unless laughing increases pain :|

Actually, that is a good answer and the one I was going to give (well, that or sex). Endorphins produced during sexual activities actually does soothe various pains in your body.

Cyanide and happiness

...

The WEBCOMIC!!! DO NOT TAKE ACTUAL CYANIDE!!!
There are around 2000, and while many have juvenile humor, they are quite entertaining.
There is also looking for group if you don't mind parodies, and it is a webcomic that has a story.
Starcraft. Self explanatory
Altitude on steam, very addicting.
Peggle. Same as starcraft.
Monty Python marathon.

I think we're pretty much at the same stage then (weirdly). Emergency dentist has given me some anti-biotics but they'll take a few days and tomorrow I'll be going to normal dentist in the hope she can do...well...anything!

Hope you get rid of it soon too :)

Oh, nice picture/name as well, Red is one the best characters around!

Get appendicitis, it'll give you some prespective on the pain scale.
Seriously, the night before I went into hospital was the longest, most painful night I have ever experienced.
+1 on this. I regret waiting the entire night before going to the hospital.

It's not even the delusional fever kind of infection. It's the 'perfectly consious for every agonising second' kind.

Hehe thanks, Red has always been a favourite <3
And teeth/gums suck! I've had problems with mine for ages but they couldn't treat me for 9 months coz I was pregnant and now I'm not anymore the buggers got infected so I can't get treated!
Behind labour I'd say toothache is probably one of the worst pains ever... and being kicked in the nuts for guys I guess ;) x

In anticipation of another sleepless/hellish night, what would you, in all your wisdom, suggest I do to distract myself OR, what have you done in the past when in a similar situation?
Boil up some water, add salt, swill while it's as hot as you can stand, spit, repeat. Worked for me, anyhow. Feeling your pain mate. Tooth owies suck ass.
