Well, I just finished watching this movie for the first time, and I gotta say.. It was one hell of a ride. I didn't expect the journey onto the mothership to fail as horribly as it did for the main character, but I gotta say.. His last stand was pretty damn badass. However, despite this, I can only wonder what will happen next. Will there be a sequel? I mean, Chris escaped to presumably return to his homeworld in order to recruit helpers, but does that mean he will come back, wage war, and grab the main character to return him to his human-state? I must say, I very much enjoyed this film, and I do hope that they make a sequel.

Discussion: What did my fellow Escapists think about District 9?

It is undoubtedly one of the best sci-fi films I have ever seen. Just... yeah, it was amazing.

I hope there's going to be a sequel. Called District 10. (If it's District 9 2, that would just get confusing).

Anyways, one of my top rated films. EVAH.

I love it. It is in my top five movies of the decade (2000 to 2010).

I don't think that there should be a sequel. It ended really well and a sequel would subtract from that ending. It also would not bring anything new to the table.

I thought it was a comedy ? I don't think they can make a sequel. I just can't see the plot going anywhere from the ending point =/

I went into District 9 hoping to watch an awesome movie, and it ended up going in a completely different direction from what I expected.

It was still awesome, though.

EDIT: please, Eris, let there never be a sequel to District 9, ever. It would just ruin everything the movie was about. Amen.

The main character has the idiot ball. That ruined the movie.

Given the options: go to the mothership and get cured or get dissected by your own species, Wikus wisely decides to knock out Christopher, pilot the aircraft, destroying it and any real hope of curing himself. Fucking idiot.

There is one possible option for a sequel that would stay fathful to the theme.

As District 9 is a metaphor for 'District 6' which was a similar concept but with Blacks in South Africa (The prawns being the equivilent).
So this would mean that when the man Prawn character leaves this could be a parallel to Nelson Mandella leaving to go to prison until he returned and brought down the apartide.
Therefore similar concept could happen with the prawn that left returning to free all prawns and they would either leave Earth or be put into positions of power in the government.

Just a thought.

This movie is outstanding in every possible way, and should not receive a sequel. Any further additions to the story would dilute it, not make it better.

It was a really good movie, but I don't think it left too much room for a sequel. Sure, they could always have the aliens return and stuff like that but I don't see any way it could live up to the first one.

No, he had the Irrational Moment.

Because he'd be stuck on an alien craft for three years and on their planet for however long before getting back to Earth with the chance that they want to extinguish the human menace. Not to mention that that said alien race would probably treat him the same way we have them, even the dissections.

He wanted to be cured within the same day, but being forced to wait three years before being able to return is a bit much which brought on his Irrational Moment... and the man was clearly traumatized. I don't think anyone could act rational after going through what he did and just wanting everything to return to normal -- no strings attached.

Besides, the anti-aircraft missiles would have done the same regardless of who piloted it. It might have been different, I don't know. I just think the force of the explosion may ground the ship, not sure if permanently though.

The idiot ball moment was when Wikus retreated from Colonel Koobus Venter while he commanded the giant exo-suit, but he redeemed himself shortly after... so not much to complain there.

It was a good movie, but come on guys, the ending was begging for a sequel. It's hard to make an ending more sequel-worthy than that. Christopher has to return in three years and get back the aliens from District 10, it's what he promised. Sequels aren't bad by default you know.

So yeah, it looks like there might be a sequel.
And yes, that film was fantastic.

I really hope there's a sequel, with Christopher Johnson returning to find Wikus and save his people and the politics behind that happening. It certainly sounds interesting that's for sure and it would be cool to see all the awful alien hating corporations finally get what's coming to them as well.
