You'd get 0.

Next question!

0/0 = 1 because x/x = 1
The rather fatal flaw in that is that 0 is nothing.

If you start with no sweets in your hand, and share those no sweets between no people, you won't suddenly conjure up a sweet.

0/0 = 1 because x/x = 1
and
(not zero)/0 = infinity or negative infinity beacause division determines how many times one number goes into another and you can fit an infinite numbers of zeroes into any positive number and an infinite number of negative zeroes into any negative number.

solved
just want to say that 0/0 doesn't equal 1

Well, you would get infinity i assume.

I'll try to demonstrate here:
If you divide 1 by 1, what do you get? 1 of course
What if you divide 1 by 1/2? You get 2
And what about 1 divided by 1/4? 4
And so forth...

The closer we the number we divide with gets to 0, the larger the answer becomes. So logically if we divided by 0 we would get the largest number imaginable, infinity.

Should someone successfully divide by '0', I imagine life would be similar to 'connection interrupted' in many online multiplayer games.

Does anyone actually know why you can't divide by zero? What is the mathematics behind it making it an impossible task? I guess that's much like asking why you can't take the square root of a negative number, you just can't because it can't exist. But why doesn't the ability to divide by zero exist? If this thread answered that it would actually be productive.
The square root of -25 is -5, no? Elaborate.

The square root of -25 is 5i. (i² = -1)

No, the square root of -25 is a non real answer. The reason being that -5^2 = 25. You can't get a negative when you square a number. Or if you've studied imaginary numbers...

This, 5i because you need imaginary numbers in order to solve equations with negative roots in them.

Nononono. It says, "Math Error". "Syntax Error" os for things like "865*+x======+". Nonsensical things.

You've answered your own question.

Think about it.

(Hint: the abilty to devide by zero ; productive)

Tell me something that would happen when you divide by zero. Feel free to be absurd.
[blockquote]To see the most simple example, we begin with:

A/B = C

Now, we choose B to be equal to 0, and A will be equal to 3 as in the Trinity (any non zero number). C will be left undefined, as its value does not matter. Our equation now reads:

3/0 = C

A/B = C can be rewritten as:

A = B*C

Plugging in our variables, we get:

3 = 0*C

3 = 0

The rearrangement was needed to avoid having to deal with the indeterminate.

As proven, any time a division by zero happens, a contradiction will always be formed. This means you may not divide by zero, as it will always create something that is untrue. [/blockquote]
Except the point is that C would be an irrational and undefinable number, which negates the usual rule of multiplication/division being commutative and easily inversible.

Multiplying infinity (no, C would not be infinity, but that's a useful simplification that isn't TOO incorrect) by zero is as sensible as dividing it by two.

Because it limits the amount of things you can do within mathematics to real variables? I can't remember highschool math, that was five years ago now.
