Hello again Escapist

I've downloaded several DLCs in my time, some good, some great, some just not even worth the time and money. So another thought and question for you all.

What are some of the best DLCs you have downloaded and played and what are some of the worse that you just think "Why the hell did i download this piece of crap?"

Comment below and share what you think.

The best DLC would be Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina Assault on Dragon Keep. I played this dlc with a good friend of mine and we enjoyed it very much. Definitly one of the best dlc I ever played. As for the worst Mass Effect 3: Leviathan dlc. I was and still am a big fan of the Mass effect franchise and although I wasn't all too happy with the ending, I was ok with it and moved on. This dlc however just felt... wrong. It looked to me that Bioware made another (failed) attempt to convince me that the ending was good and wasn't full of plotholes. I saw more plotholes in the game after this dlc then before, so I wasn't all too happy I payed $10 for it.

In general I don't think dlc is a bad thing. I really don't mind exploring new parts or playing new stories in a game I already finished, but I do think certain publishers/developpers (don't know who's really in charge of dlc) are overdoing it, EA escpecially.

Best would be Lair of the Shadow Broker and Citadel for ME2 and ME3 respectively.

Worst would be Arrival for ME2. Point Lookout or whatever it was called for Fallout 3 was pretty shit too, although that came with the game, so I'm not sure if it counts.

While I have nothing against the practice, I haven't actually bought that much DLC in my time.

Oh, I have the Borderlands 2 Tiny Tina DLC, but I can't bring myself to play it. I got so sick of that game during the main campaign that the thought of going back for more makes me feel a little ill.

Best are the Fallout: New Vegas DLC, hands down. My favourite was Dead Money, but all of them were pretty grand, with good story and 6-8 hours of gameplay.

Apart from that, I haven't bought any other DLC. Not that I'm boycotting, I just don't see the sense in buying most of them.

The Dark Souls DLC was pretty cool, even if it's nearly impossible to actually find the new content without looking it up online first. New bosses, enemies, environments, all with same standard of quality as the main game. And none of this "developing the DLC next to the main game" bullshit, they weren't even planning any DLC when it came out.

I generally hate all the mini DLC so many games get loaded with. Seriously, you want me to PAY you for some overpowered weapon or funny outfit? Used to be we had cheats for that. And yes, I know I don't have to buy it (which I don't) but it still reeks of nickel and dimeing your fans.

I don't know that they're the best, but my favourites were Dead Money for Fallout New Vegas and Citadel for Mass Effect 3.

I honestly don't buy DLC very often, but the ones that I really don't understand are things like armour or weapon DLC for single player games. I just don't see any kind of value to those.

I'll echo others here and say that I generally don't buy DLC at all. The only games I have are for Fallout 3, New Vegas, Oblivion, and Borderlands.

For me I enjoyed New Vegas' DLC the most, with Old World Blues making me laugh and Dead Money being very good with atmosphere and general creepiness.

My favorite DLC is Overlord for Mass Effect 2. I'm a puss when it comes to horror, so it has just the right level to intrigue me and make me piddle just a little bit.

The worst...probably that CoD:MW2 map pack I got once. Complete waste of money.

The best would have to be the Borderlands games. You get quite a bit of play for $10, less if you bought the season pass. A couple of the Fallout 3 dlcs impressed me too, like Point Lookout. New Vegas hardly worked for my ps3 so I never dared to try any dlc, the one with Dr Venture looks pretty cool though, I'll probably pick up goty for the pc one day.

But I don't buy too much dlc, just for the games I really like. Now that I think about it, I don't have any dlc that I really dislike. There are some things that I waited to drop in price because I thought they were way overpriced, like CoD map packs and the GTA4 dlc, but they were still fun.

I quite like DLC's like the ones released for Borderlands and Skyrim.
DLC which doesn't feel like content that was originally cut out of a game, but is essentially an expansion pack that tells it's own story.

Asura's Wrath is probably the worst game I can think of for DLC.
Capcom were cheap enough bastards that they wanted you to pay for the goddamn ending!

Yes I agree I loved Asuras Wrath and it had a surprisingly good story then THAT ending happens and you have to buy DLC to continue and finish the game. I couldnt bring myself to support that so I never saw the proper ending but I keep meaning to watch it on youtube (even though its not the same).

Best DLC? probably Skullgirls extra characters/stages/commentary because its free (for a while) and adds a lot to the game, I have no problem with this kind of DLC.

Citadel for ME3 was arguably the best part of ME3, and one of the best pieces of content Bioware has put out in years. Makes me halfway hopeful they're learning from their mistakes.

I always enjoyed the FO3 and NV DLC too, as they tended to be chunky expansions of the main game, often 10-20 hours in and of themselves. That's good value.

My favorite DLCs would be:

1. Artorias of the Abyss (Dark Souls) I would say that any one of the four boss fights in the DLC are worth the asking price of this (possibly a slight exaggeration, but they are all very awesome), that said accessing it is a bit obtuse and generally requires a trip to the wiki.

2. Old World Blues (New Vegas) Hilarious, excellently written, and adds an expansive new area to explore as well as plenty of new items and enemies. And it has Doc Venture as a brain in a jar in it! What more do you want?

3. Dragon Age Awakening (DA:O) Anyone who liked Origins will love Awakening, it has tons of content, new interesting characters, and has an excellent self contained difficulty curve.

4. The rest of New Vegas's DLC, all of its pretty good for various reasons, though I don't have Gun Runners so I can't speak for that.

I typically only buy DLC after some consideration, so I've managed to avoid getting any DLC that I didn't like so far.

Only DLC I've actually bought from stores are the ones for Borderlands and two for Dragon Age: Origins.
Best was definetly Borderlands. They were lengthy, fun and felt like a good value. The DLC from DA:O is what made me quit buying DLC all togeather. Same cost as the Borderland ones, but the length was hardly even 15 minutes... and they sucked.

I've been lucky enough to never actually buy a DLC I didn't like. Had tons of fun with the fallout 3 DLC (though now that I think about it, I still never beat Broken Steel. Keep re-starting the game to get there rather than just pick up with my character that was already at the end of the game).
Recently my brother got Old World Blues. That was one of the funniest goddamn DLC I have ever seen. Easily worth more than the $10 we paid for it.

Hell, in the case of Red Dead Redemption, the Undead Nightmare DLC was better than the game itself! (not saying red dead was bad, but around the time I got to mexico it just got boring and repetitive. And that gattling gun needs some actual spread to be effective, otherwise it's just a gun that aims slower than your rifle).

Oh yeah, the Dragon Age DLC was hella overpriced for what you got. One quest for a similar cost to Mothership Zeta? I call bull********************. I enjoyed the quests to be sure, they just weren't worth the price.
And the entirety of Dragon Age: Awakening felt rushed. Nobody got nearly as much development as the cast of DA:O, and none of the areas were very long. Maybe about as long as the Circle Tower at most. The swamp was longer, but that's because they pulled that fade crap again. On the upside, that time it WASN'T awful.

"Overlord" was fucking amazing. The story was incredible, and got me really invested in what was going on. Definitely worth the price to experience this subplot.

Hmm... the best I think would be the Legacy of Rome DLC for Crusader Kings 2. It gives the Eastern Roman Empire and other Orthodox nations their own unique mechanics. It also lets you bring the Roman Empire back to it's former glory.
I've never really liked the term "Byzantine Empire," I feel it's very ahistorical, and that it implies that the Roman Empire, which survived well into the Middle Ages, just ended after the fall of Western Empire, which it really didn't. So although I don't like that the game uses what I feel is an inaccurate term, I think this DLC rectifies some of the historical inaccuracies of using it. I also liked the Sword of Islam and The Old Gods because they remove some of the Eurocentrism and Cristocentrism present in the vanilla game.

As for the worst, hmm... Off the top of my head I'd have to say some of the DLC I bought for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King. In retrospect it wasn't worth it, and most of it was pretty useless and probably should have been included with the main game. Not one of the best things I've ever spent my money on.
