The Shivering Isles for Oblivion was worth getting for Sheogorath alone, same for General Knox in Borderlands 1, and Mr Torgue in Borderlands 2
Shivering Isles and Knox's Armory were both awesome in the game area, along with the writing, Mr Tougue's was ok, but the writing stood out
Ned's Zombie Island for Bl 1 was pretty good too, i liked the writing and it was fun

But the Moxxi Dlc(also for Bl 1) was horrible, it got boring really fast, and it was more of a chore than anything trying to clear the later arenas, and Moxxi got annoying really fast, i muted the sound effects and turned off the subtitles after some time

The stage Dlc for Castlevania Harmony of Despair was surprisingly good, particularly Stage 9, which is simply awesome(specially if you main Shanoa), and Stage 10, which makes you feel like a badass for clearing it
I also liked the music Dlc for Cv Hd, it has some pretty good tracks in it

I have seen some good ones in my time,

Some of my favourites are...

Project Overlord for Mass Effect 2. Oh poor, poor David - your brother was a complete bastard.
The Shivering Isles for Oblivion. I do love Sheogorath, that crazy bastard. Even if I can't tell if he's Scottish or Irish.
Old World Blues for Fallout: New Vegas. I loved Doctor Dala. Vivisection, Teddy Bears and more than a passing interest for breathing. She's bonkers, but I love her.

Some of the worst are...

Horse armour for Oblivion. In my defense, I was quite drunk when I bought it.
Call of Duty Map Packs. Overpriced like buggery.

I'm sure there are other turkeys out there which I have banished from the black pit that is my mind. I'll post 'em if I can think of them.

Best were:

1. Secret Armory of General Knoxx in Borderlands
2. Bringing Down the Sky in Mass Effect

Worst were:
1. Lost Episodes in Asura's Wrath
2. Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot in Borderlands

Evilest is:
Bringing Down the Sky in Mass Effect as you had to buy it in one language or another. No support for both languages and if you accidentally click the wrong one, or wish to use both languages, you can't.

Worst DLC I can think is for Prince of Persia 08 where you had to buy the epilogue -_-
This, easily. Such a **** move on Ubisoft's part.

Asura's Wrath did something similar, but I enjoyed that game a lot more and I got the base game for like $20 so I'm not complaining.

The best DLC, though? Hm... Probably the Shivering Isles, and hopefully the Borderlands 2 expansions (which I have yet to touch).

Dungeon Defenders

I have lot of mixed feelings about DLC in this game.

Whats good:
They cheaply added lot of content of maps characters and skin and even managed to sell expansion episodically.

Whats bad:
Some of them are rather ridiculous like the politically themed one. Also the expansion destroyed old content same way the WoW expansions did and become must buy if you want to stay in endgame.

Best DLCs would be Lair of the Shadow Broker and Overlord for Mass Effect 2, and The Pitt for Fallout 3 (seriously, I love the writing for this one).

As for the worst... I don't usually buy DLC separately (I do buy GOTY editions, though), but the worst I can think of would be the Barbarian and Jester for Dungeon Defenders, as I never used the first, nor do I feel like using him, and the Jester is too much of a gamble to use seriously.

I prefer it when they call it expansion packs and stick to the model of such things. I don't mind a developer using the same engine to make a new or expanded version of the game with an interesting story to go with it, as long as it was worth playing for the story alone. If it made development costs cheaper and provides the writing team with a free hand as the perfect version of a good expansion pack would do, then I would love to see much more of it. Like sequels but I think shivering isles was better than Assassin's creed brotherhood. Just so long as they don't get lazy, dlc or expansion packs can be a wonderful tool to flesh out a good game and help the development team.

Horse Armor.

Best money I ever spent.

Seriously though?
Probably Medieval II Total War: Kingdoms [http://wiki.totalwar.com/w/Factions_in_Medieval_II:_Total_War_-_Kingdoms]. It basically added about 4 times as much gameplay as the core game had (albeit with a fair bit of reskinning). In terms of sheer quantity, they don't make DLC like that any more, and they even managed to make the new campaigns pretty fresh - apart from the America campaign, which was certainly fresh, but kind of crap.

If not that then probably one of the Fallout or Borderlands DLCs. Can't pick one though.

Definitely Fallout New Vegas's DLC. New areas, a bunch of new and interesting characters, lots of extra weapons, and basically hours of extra content. What's not to love?

"Citadel" for Mass effect 3.

Probably the best thing Bioware has released since...possibly ever. I'd try to describe it but im at a loss for words on how bloody excellent this thing is. More then makes up for the ending disaster. Yep, im serious.

A close second however is "Lair of the shadow broker" for Mass effect 2. Bioware even met overwhelmingly positive feedback for this that they said they'd make ME3 in the same quality. Proved a little too hard to live up to, until citadel was released.

As for dissapointing DLC, im not sure. Havent had a whole lot of dissapointments because I generally dont buy them a lot, mostly just for Bioware titles.

Favorite: ME3 Citadel. My face hurt towards the end because I was just smiling so much. Never had so much fun with a DLC before

Least Favorite: ME1 Pinnacle Station. Worst overall feeling of "Fuck, 200 points down the shitter."

I only buy DLC when I absolutely need more of the game to play. So, thankfully not that often...

Shivering Isles, hands down. Then again, I've not played through a lot of DLC in the first place. It usually because I either don't have the money, don't want to pay what they're asking, or don't have the room on my hard drive. However, I do have all the New Vegas DLC but have yet to fully play through any of it.

One of the worst DLC's I've run into is a DLC pack for Gotham City Imposters. It gives the plays a few costume pieces and a few gadgets. Two of those gadgets are the jet pack and the Witchdoctor. Those two pieces of shit make the game extremely unbalanced and almost unplayable in some cases. That(and the fact that they're charging $10 for some fucking costumes and loadout items) is why I refuse to buy the pack because I don't believe in using some overpowered weapon or item just to win ever time in a multiplayer game. Seriously, anyone who bought that DLC and uses it can go fuck themselves with some superheated barbed wire.

Fallout: New Vegas have had some rather decent DLC, so I guess an all-around applaud for them.

Saints Row 3 (and presumably 4 by the look of it) have had more or less only bad DLC not worth the price.

Asura's Wrath is probably the worst game I can think of for DLC.
Capcom were cheap enough bastards that they wanted you to pay for the goddamn ending!
Yes I agree I loved Asuras Wrath and it had a surprisingly good story then THAT ending happens and you have to buy DLC to continue and finish the game. I couldnt bring myself to support that so I never saw the proper ending but I keep meaning to watch it on youtube (even though its not the same).

Best DLC? probably Skullgirls extra characters/stages/commentary because its free (for a while) and adds a lot to the game, I have no problem with this kind of DLC.
I got both game and DLC on sales so it was cheaper than a full price game. Shocking practice though.

Loved ME2 DLC and Citadel in 3.

Best DLC: Either undead nightmare or tiny tina, and seeming as people have already talked about tiny tina, I'll cover undead nightmare.

It was a zombie DLC that made a goddamn effort. It respected popular tropes whilst creating it's own great story, it didn't take itself too seriously, the weapons of a wild west setting are very well suited to zombies, and the soundtrack is fucking awesome.

Worst DLC: Gangstas in space. Really, most of the SR3 DLC could be nominated, but aside from being blatant cash grabs, most of them were pretty fun. Generally all the SR2 DLC had a problem with providing more missions but no new ways to fuck around steelport as you're pretty much expected to, and this was no exception, but some of the missions were even pretty bad. The humor is good to begin with, but relies too much on essentially the same joke repeated. Just goddamn avoid.

Best DLC I ever purchased was Artorias of the Abyss for Dark Souls. The only other DLC I've purchased I think were the Halo 3 Map Packs, which were totally worth it, and the Reach Map Packs, which were very, very disappointing.

Best DLC I purchased was hands down Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare. It was crazy, for a guy who was sick as hell of zombie infestation... uh... infestations in games, I really really really liked this. The side-mission aspect of breaking the four horses of the apocalypse, the actual story itself, and just the atmosphere was awesome. And fucking freaky. Riding through the wild west + zombies made it really wild. Plus being attacked by zombie bears.
Worst DLC? hmmm... The Pitt for Fallout 3. I was looking forward to seeing Pittsburgh post-nuclear war, got handed a bag of crap that was buggy as hell, and fetch-quest style achievements. Fuck, even the fetch steel bars achievement was bugged. I had 'em all and it never registered and I refused to replay that piece of crap ever again. I did make it a point to kill everyone in that map space though. Fuck them, fuck that DLC.

Best are the Fallout: New Vegas DLC, hands down. My favourite was Dead Money, but all of them were pretty grand, with good story and 6-8 hours of gameplay.

Apart from that, I haven't bought any other DLC. Not that I'm boycotting, I just don't see the sense in buying most of them.
All of the DLC had. . . problems. Dead Money was incredibly tedious, especially if you didn't go in with high repair skill. On hardcore mode, the constantly eroding health was a bigger danger than anything other than the holograms. Worse still, only one of the items in the DLC was truly worth taking back to Vegas - the Assassin's armor. Sure, the revolver was the most powerful holdout weapon but, if we're honest, even the pathetic silenced .22 pistol was sufficient for any threat you might face within the Casino. Honest Hearts was, all told, just not particularly interesting to play though. The best parts were simply following the life of the Survivalist through is logs. Thankfully, this one at least had some gear worth the effort including what is probably the best weapon in the game - A Light Shining in the Darkness. With high AP and a build with an eye to critical hits, that weapon was an absolute murder factory easily outpacing any weapon in the original content. The one in Big MT (Who's name escapes me suddenly) was largely fine save for the fact that you once again uncovered lots of weapons and loot that, for most players, simply weren't worth having. Sure, there were a few melee weapons but the real gem here was the voice work, the story, and most importantly, a readily accessible house. The last one was perhaps the most dull of the four and the culmination of the story felt like a cheat as much as anything else.

Of course, I will say that it did one thing precisely correctly: at no point did the DLC ever really intrude on the main game. It just told side stories barely mentioned as threads in the base content. The fate of the Elder, the last chapter of the burned man, the promise of the Old World even when beset by the madness of war and, finally, just why the hell Courier six turned down the job that nearly got you killed outside of Goodsprings.

Do you rate the DLC largely on how good their loot is or am I missing something?

Honest Hearts was personally the weakest, but Zion was a joy to look at and to explore. Old World Blues was the DLC that felt tedious for me, but it had great humour and a sweet homebase. Alone the intro was worth the cost, in my opinion.

As for Dead Money - yeah, it was a hard and maybe even tedious DLC. But the new mechanics were very successful at creating a horror atmosphere and I loved traversing through the city due to being able to climb almost any structure. Its level design was my favourite of all.

I'm a big sucker for creepy settings and Dead Money did almost everything right. The story and companions were brilliant in my opinion and that's what matters for me.

Lonesome Road is kinda weird. On the one hand, I loved the Fallout 3 feeling, but the linear setting didn't fit Fallout all that well. Still, the story was engaging and while it did not end with a bang, it was bitter-sweet nonetheless.
