I have noticed over time that americans seem to dislike canadians esspecially in there industry. Also in there media canadians are either very stereotyped and ussually portayed very negativly despite us essentially sharing the same culture. I have even heard various stories from fellow canadians who have been to the states for college or work and have activly experianced prejudice in various levels some to the point they even had to leave. Now I am not saying all americans are prejudice or anything of that nature but its more of a question of whether it is uncommon or not to have american people activly disliking anything canadian or anyone canadian taking part in there society?

It's more of a joke hate for most people. We just like to call them backwards and make fun of them for saying words like "about" differently.

EDIT: I'm aware that Canadians don't say "aboot", but from spending lots of time in Canada I can say that most pronounce it "Abouoot" as opposed to the more American "Abowt".

No, not at all.

...Until you ride across the border with your mounties and try to take us over. I see all 90% of you mashed up against our border like a kid squeezing his face up against a candy store window, I KNOW THE TRUUUUUUTH!

Canada doesn't have anything for us TO hate that much. So happens I like alot of the acting talent that comes from Canada, especially those on the humor line-up.

If I have a good handle on American culture (I hope I do since I've been born and raised down here), we don't hate Canadians. I think that the feeling is more like how you might feel about a little brother who you don't really understand, is easy to mock, but you love him. Hell, a lot of Americans claim to be Canadian when they travel.

I thought it was all just a joke for the most part, although I've always found the idea that Americans (jokingly) refer to Canada as backwards quite funny, considering the political landscape (amongst other things) in the States.

But then I'm neither American or Canadian, so what do I care? You all sound the same to me.

I've lived my entire life in Canada, and I've never heard anyone say "a-boot" non-ironically. Other the other end, most people I know do say "zed" and spell things with a "u" (honour, colour).

I live just across the border from a country full of Canadians. A strange place known as Canada. On the few expeditions I made into this place that seems to be regarded as some sort of mythical realm I found that nothing really stood out much. I have no qualms with Canadians but they sure do make for a good joke.

That's more over in Quebec with the French Canadians.

TO DATE I have never heard anyone say "about" "aboot" unless they were doing it ironically.

In anycase, most Americans I talk to love to make fun of us but don't actually hate us. We're too awesome for that.

90% of the time, the U.S. doesn't even acknowledge/remember/care about Canadians.
When we do it's usually just to make some random joke. At this point, we treat Canada like a state. When we want to mention something specific we make fun of it. Otherwise, it doesn't exist.
At least that's how I see the U.S. treat Canada.
I come from a small state (Iowa), so it's how most of the U.S. treats my state as well.

EDIT: I see Canadians as European Americans. Meaning they're more respectful and just all around better composed while not seeming foreign (which is a great win when you think about it, I mean for some reason being seen as foreign in a country full of foreigners is bad). xD

I have never known anyone to hate Canadians, what is there to hate? Some Canadians go to my college and they seem to fit in fine. In fact, I didn't even know one of them was Canadian until they told me. The only show I have seen that makes fun of Canadians is south park, but then it's a stupid show that makes fun of everyone so I wouldn't take it personally.

I don't have any real problem with Canadians. I've been to canada, it seemed like a nice place. Though every now and then I get this paranoid suspicion in the back of my mind that they're just waiting for the right moment to invade. I doubt they would, as it'd be entirely senseless, but it wouldn't be a paranoid suspicion if it was a valid concern.

That said, I don't mind if you guys take one of the northernmost states. I don't plan on visiting Maine or Montana anytime soon.

Personally, I've never known any Americans who seem to hate Canadians. Sure, we love to make fun of you - I guess in a way, we subconsciously see you as a little brother country, so of course we have to tease you, although we don't mean anything malicious by it. I know that's kind of condescending too, but no harm is meant.
