Do any of you actually like the 3D on the 3DS?

I've had my 3DS for about a year now and I absolutely love it, however I realized that I've still never actually used the 3D feature. I've tested it on just about every game I own but every time without fail it starts to irritate my eyes after just a few seconds and I have to turn it off to save myself a headache. Not to mention you easily lose focus if you don't have a perfectly steady hand to hold at the screen at the right angle.

So I just wanted to know what other people's experiences have been like with the 3D function on the 3DS, does it actually work for you or does it seem incompatible with your eyesight like it does with mine? And if it has worked for you, does it add anything worthwhile to your gaming experience or is it just a waste of battery usage?

Nope. Had a 3DS since launch and picked up a 3DS XL when Pokemon came out. I've tried it on both and it looks like shit on both.

I wish I could get a 2DS without sacrificing the ability to flip it open and closed. In the end all we're paying for is stereoscopic 3D which is a cheap parlor trick that takes advantage of the fact that we have 2 eyes.

I watch cutscenes in 3D occasionally, but any prolonged session with it turned on will give me a horrible headache. I keep that shit turned off XD

I use and like it in Luigi's Mansion 2. The game is gorgeous already and the 3D is executed subtly, but noticeable. In most other games I just don't bother, it either looks horrible or is so subtle you hardly see a difference. I agree it's mostly gimmicky, but luckily the software line-up for the 3DS has become so insanely good that the device still offers a lot of value despite one of the arguably main selling points (at least from a PR perspective) doesn't really add anything. Which doesn't change the fact that it is somewhat superfluous in most scenarios. Then again, the same was true for quite some time with the second screen on the DS and a lot of fondly remembered games on the Wii did not really incorporate the Wii-mote. There's quite the trend but luckily the format of the platform apparently doesn't prevent great games from happening on there. Also, for the sake of context, I got my 3DS (XL) this August.

I love it, and it's one of the main reasons I grabbed the console. I entirely understand the love/hate people have with it, but if the next DS didn't have 3D, I'd question whether or not I'd buy it. Games like Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are mind blowing in 3D. Hell, Resident Evil Revelations and Star Fox 64 aren't too bad either. But stuff like Street Fighter IV and Donkey Kong Country Returns aren't very good - and in SFIV's case, the decreased frame rate messes with the timing.

I don't think it looks bad but I just have no reason to use it ever. So yeah not really a factor.

It's an interesting gimmick, but the eyestrain isn't something I can put up with, and the need to hold the 3ds in the correct position for it to work is a chore.

I do, not of all the time but it's quite a nice feature to have (it's easy to toggle)

Some of the cutscenes in the latest Pokemon : Mystery Dungeon look really good in full 3d!

I enjoyed the field-of-depth it added to New Super Mario Bros. 2, but I still turned it off because field-of-depth came at the cost of a pretty backdrop. Other games do have nice 3D effects as well, but I can't stare at the 3DS in 3D for long without my eyes getting sore, and if I try to focus on anything else afterwards (which is common since I often play it when taking a brief break from schoolwork), then it is literally impossible for my eyes to adequately readjust for at least 10 minutes. Personally, I think the 3D effects are nice to look at, but what they do to my eyes is just not worth it.

It looks great, but its more of an enhancement than a necessity. Like HD when it first came out. Ofcourse I think many games are afraid to use it more intently. Mario 3D Land is the only game I know that had areas that the 3D made specifically easier (and it tells you before hand).

I have a 3DS XL and I usually have the 3D set to max. I love the effect! I didn't expect to, I though it'd just be a gimmick at best. But when the 3D is used effectively, it heightens immersion tremendously. A perfect example of this would be Resident Evil: Revelations. If not that, Super Mario 3D Land will make you a believer.

It's alright. Since you dont really need it, I cant say I'm remisced if I dont use it, but for the knew pokemon game its fun at times. its definitely a gimmick that I dont see going forward much longer but its not really terrible.

Sometimes it's handy or really nice to use...But I usually leave it off.

It was super useful in Kid Icarus, and improved my dodging dramatically when I had it on, although it gave me a headache if I left it on for too long. And I would ALWAYS have it on for Pheonix Wright 5...if it didn't bug up every time the camera goes to center on the judge. x_x Seriously, the 3D screws up every time the game looks at him!

The 3D was one of the main reasons i bought my 3DS (Which I absolutely love BTW) I've had mine for over a year now, and it's my most played gaming device next to my gaming PC, which I've used a lot more than my 360 and PS3.
I just can't fault the 3DS, even with the battery life being quite short, which might i add can be remedied with an extended battery accessory.

I like it, but I also like that I can turn it off. I switch it on and off all the time, I think the 3D effect is neat and like to use it, but I can't keep still long enough or am in the wrong position to use it. Usually my need to move comes before straining my eyes so I never had to worry about that.

It's not bad. I kinda like it, though I don't really use it 'cuz it's hard on the eyes, as well as the battery. I like to turn it on for particularly climactic moments in a game, though only when it doesn't wreck the frame rate.
