Do any of you actually like the 3D on the 3DS?

I usually have it turned off on my 3DSXL, as like others have said, it gives me a headache after a bit.

It just doesn't work for me. On the few occasions when I was curious and did switch it on, I was disappointed.

I keep trying to turn it on in different games now and then just to see. Have yet to find a game where it does not hurt my eyes from seeing double.

It.. kind of works if held in the exact right angle but who does that with a handheld!?

3D tech in general does not seem to work that well imo, as you can't focus with your eyes like normal.

I Like it, as in I'm curios how this game looks in 3D, 10 minutes later I turn it off. And sometimes I turn it on when I view the Cutscenes.
Usually I keep it off, It's not a dealbreaker for me, since I bought the 3DS for the games.

The 3D on the 3DS...
-reduces battery life (which is already short)
-only works in a certain sweet spot
-doesn't look all that great anyway

Needless to say, I did not get a 3DS for the 3D.

Mostly I turn it on for scattered moments in Pokemon X. If I wanna savor an evolution or a Mega Evolution to end out a particularly tough fight. It's really mostly a gimmick, but as always Nintendo shows that it has the capability to do things well. They show the potential for something, even if they themselves haven't found the best use for it yet.

<< Mostly the 3D switch gets turned on when Aggron mega-evolves. Because I can't help it: I love me some Aggron.

I have trouble lining it up right, it annoys my eyes, and it just doesn't look all that good. I leave it off 99% of the time and wouldn't miss it if it was gone.

Tried it once, but since I can't see in 3D, it just looked very, very bad.
Well, that'd certainly make kit useless.

I do like the 3D, use it all the time. Except of course when it's impossible to hold the 3DS in the right place for it to work.
All these people complaining about it hurting their eyes and looking blurry really annoy me. I had those problems for a bit, but it was because I wasn't holding it the right way. I figured out the correct position soon enough.

I typically try it out a few times during my gaming, just to see how one game or another uses it. Can be fun, especially in a well-done cutscene, but other than that I play with it off. A lot of my friends do likewise.

my advice to those who get headaches from the 3D - turn it barely on and try that. the effect is somewhat reduced, but still gives you the depth perception it is supposed to.

from my own experience, the 3D works well when you can actually use it for gameplay - like in Super Mario 3D Land or Star Fox 64 3DS (jumping and aiming respectively). in other games, it's cute but unnecessary, like in NSMB2 or Theatrhythm: FF. it definitely takes some practice to keep the 3DS screen in the 'sweet spot' for the 3D effect, and if you're moving too much, it is a little distracting. i would imagine that the sweet spot is larger on the 3DS XL due to larger pixel size. i turn it off probably half the time.

I'm going to have to pass this thread on to my son who's been badgering me to get one for ages.

And off-topic - I was reading your post when Kate Bush 'Jig of Life' came up on Spotify and it went so well with your avatar animation I almost did an officeLol.

I leave it on, and love it. I wish the angle of view was a bit wider, but I rarely have any problems with it. At the moment, 3D is still just a gimmick, and don't think we should be building technology with it until we get it nailed down.

I don't want to say it's pointless and I can't say I completely dislike it but I never use the feature. It's a drain on the battery and when I do use it, it's only on for as long as the cutscene I'm watching (so, no longer than a minute or two). The only times I've really used it have been for Pokemon Evolutions and, the first skirmish or two in Fire Emblem. I really don't want to be "that guy" but I can't help thinking Nintendo could have easily made the 3DS into a handheld gamecube in terms of power if they didn't include the 3D gimmick during R&D.

Got my Crystal white 3DS when I bought Pokemon Y and have loved it ever since, I even tend to play with it on fully when playing Animal Crossing New Leaf.

it's the first 3D effect that so far hasn't bothered the eyes.

I think it's dope as hell. 3d is a gimmick that comes and goes. It's always at the very least fun to see where they take it.

Don't have a 3DS but I have played on them before and I can't say I care for the 3D that much. I just wish that the 2DS wasn't so ungodly ugly and dysfunctional, because I would much rather pay a bit less for a DS that plays 3DS games in 2D that can close.

I don't mind it too much, it can look really cool once in a while. I just rarely use it since it drains my 3DS battery quicker because I have an original 3DS.

Nah I've always thought of 3D as a useless gimmick. The 2DS is a godsend as far as I'm concerned.

The whole idea of 3D on the 3DS is fundamentally flawed. Ignoring for a moment the obvious issues of some people not being able to see 3D, eye strain, etc. it's 3D that only works if you're looking at the system from a very specific angle. Which, since it's a handheld, is almost never. Not to mention I've yet to play a single game on it where 3D added to the gameplay experience. Even things it should help with like judging depth for jumps in Mario, it didn't help at all compared to the 2D.

So basically, it's a gimmick which doesn't really improve your gaming experience, and which will constantly have you adjusting the handheld because the screen is a few millimeters off the sweet spot. Utterly useless, and a shame that it was in there raising the price for so long, and the only option people have for skipping the 3D and saving some money is the atrociously styled and less practical 2DS.

In my own personal experience, the 3D helps noticeably with mechanics that rely on depth perception. This aspect largely depends on the game of course. Not every game's design can benefit from 3D as an actual mechanic and not just an aesthetic, obviously.
