Do any of you actually like the 3D on the 3DS?

I like it, I like it a lot actually.

Then again, I've never gotten headaches from any form of 3D, I've only ever played a game with 3D for about an hour at most, and I've only had my 3DS for less then a month. I think it's cool feature personally, too bad it drains my battery like crazy.

I see a lot of people have problems keeping their 3DS still. I can understand this is a problem if you're treating your portable device as a portable device. That would mean you're sitting somewhere (bus seat, bench, car...) holding the 3DS in your hands up in the air with no support. And in your defense, that's the traditional way portables have been played. In that regard the 3DS "sweet spot" is problematic fundamentally.

The way I play my 3DS though is different than that. I have a gravity chair that I lean back in, and then I put a couple pillows on my lap and rest my 3DS on top of that. Since I'm resting the 3DS on pillows and not up in the air, it's easy to keep it still and maintain the 3D "sweet spot". In this practice the 3D effect is stable and remains consistent. But my method is counter intuitive to the essence of the 3DS being "portable", I concede that.

I've had my 3DS for about a year now and I absolutely love it, however I realized that I've still never actually used the 3D feature. I've tested it on just about every game I own but every time without fail it starts to irritate my eyes after just a few seconds and I have to turn it off to save myself a headache. Not to mention you easily lose focus if you don't have a perfectly steady hand to hold at the screen at the right angle.

So I just wanted to know what other people's experiences have been like with the 3D function on the 3DS, does it actually work for you or does it seem incompatible with your eyesight like it does with mine? And if it has worked for you, does it add anything worthwhile to your gaming experience or is it just a waste of battery usage?
what this thread needs is a pole.

more on topic, no I don't. reason being is I'm one of those people who can't watch 3D stuff for more than a minuet or two without getting a headache. Good thing it's not necessary for any games. So unlike other gimmicks (touch screen motion controls ect.) it can't really be exploited by making games that are pretty much just tech demos for the gimmick (I'm looking at you PSV games).

Nope, I absolutely hate it. I occasionally will turn it on because I'll start thinking, "Why don't I ever use this?" and when the skull splitting headache sets in within literally a minute or two of turning it on, I am swiftly reminded why I hate it. I also can't do 3D movies or 3D anything really; it all hurts my eyes and head.

It really depends on how much of a strain it can be. The 3D for the Ocarina of Time remake is fantastic, it's just a shame you can't really use the gyroscope with the 3D turned on lest you want to go blind.

Fire Emblem Awakening on the other hand is a different story. I don't know exactly what it is, but if I have the slider turned all the way up it just kills me. It has the same effect on me if I see a movie in 3D. Once it's over and I look away from the screen, I feel all cloudy like I had just been drugged.

The cut scenes in Monster Hunter looks stunning with the 3D on and I do like using it sometimes.

However for the most time I play with the 3D off, I want to conserve battery and I usually play on the bus where it's hard to hold it steady.

In the eleven or so months i've owned my 3DS, I think I've used the 3D maybe half an hour. I just don't have the patience to get my eyes used to it.

The 3D doesn't actually bother me at all, my only problem is it drains the battery faster. So when I have a charger on hand, I have it on. If I don't (Which is 90% of the time), the 3D goes unused.

The one game I own for my 3DS lags when I use the 3D and no one ever thought what pokemon was missing was slower battles. So I don't use it, but since I only own the one game thus far, I'm not ruling out using it later.

I like it, I assumed I would get headache's or eye strain but so far it hasn't bothered me.

As far as actual gameplay goes its not a big deal, however I really do dig the subtler things like the UI popping out.

Got a 3DS XL, but unless there is a puzzle or something that NEEDS the 3D, I keep it off, it gives me a headache rather quickly and drains the battery too quickly. If the image didn't constantly split and end up looking like a poorly made lenticular picture i'd use it more, but as it is, I just can't use it.

I can't use the 3D feature, as it just looked like two images not quite synced up right.

Might have something to do with me having glasses, I guess.

No idea what you're saying there. Mind clarifying that for me?
Not being able to see in 3D would make 3D useless.
Well, yeah, but I had to try it, just in case. Anyway, I didn't get a 3DS for the 3D, but for the games.

Likewise (though in my case I can see it. It just gives me headaches).

3D aside, it's a competent update to the DS lineup and new games are welcome.

I, for one, like the 3D, but I can use it continuously for ages and not have head-aches, however, the reduced battery life isn't really worth it, sadly.

I like it quite a bit. It was hard to use on the original 3DS, but I sold that one and got an XL and can now have the 3D all the way up without any eye pain issues, for as long as I want. For games like Kid Icarus Uprising, I love it to bits. I know it's a gimmick, but I like the inclusion of depth to my games, even if they don't need it. It just makes them feel so interesting, being able to see it all in 3D, instead of the way I've experienced games for the past 15 years. So yeah, I do enjoy it. The only time I don't is when it affects frame rates. That's when I'll turn it off

I never use my 3D on the go since it drains battery life but when I play Paper Mario or Pushmo, there is a gameplay benefit for me to turn on the slider. Tricky jumps in Paper Mario are no problem with the 3D cranked up, since I'm better at judging the perspective that way. However, for games like Pokemon, it just doesn't seem worth the shorter battery life, and in some cases a framerate drop. Some mechanics of certain games fundamentally clash with the 3D too, like gyroscopic aim in OoT3D (by far my favourite feature so long as I'm not in a moving vehicle; Poe hunting was made a bajillion times easier thanks to it!)

Still, I can see the 3D perfectly fine with no headaches and it really does make the graphics pop when I do use it. A lot of the games have been done very well and it's a shame not to spend a little time in 3D mode with them. I'm glad that the 3D is a slider of varying strength too. If you don't like 3D I think the library of games is strong enough to carry the system and has nothing to do with gimmicks.
