I've been going to a few Live-action Roleplay (LRP) events this year, getting into the hobby with my friends who have been going longer than me.

I was curious if anyone one on here also took part in a LRP system? What system do you play? And what is your character?

I play Lorien Trust, in England, and I am a human healer with some incantation power. Quite magicky. : )

I never LaRP myself, but I do go and watch sometimes, it can be a pretty interesting spectator sport when combined with beer

I used to go to the LT, main character was an archer/mage in the dragons until I annoyed a rather powerful dark incantor and he ate my pattern.
Went to Labyrinthe for a bit, played a bog standard tank

It's better when you join in with beer, or Moniack mead

Sadly I do not. Not only do I now know of such events in the area, I lack friends to play with.

It all looks like good fun, provided it doesn't take itself tóó seriously.

No. Most LARPers I've met are creepy and more than a little deranged.
It's a shame that these people have made a lasting impression on you like that. A lot of the people I have interacted with out of character are quite normal, with a few who are just keen.

If you did find a system in your area, you don't necessarily need friends to go with. Once you get there, you tend to find people are quite willing to help you out. I've met a couple good people myself through LRP.

I've got a friend who's in this steampunk LARP, he invited me to come along and I'm pretty curious, so I might. I probably wouldn't do it myself though. I'm not into acting, or whatever it is that live roleplaying involves. Sword fights, according to him.

I would if I could, but I live in rural Victoria, Australia. So not really a big community, or even a small community. I think I'd probably spend too much of my cash money on stuff. I'd play an archer (if we were allowing arrows) and swordsman in mail. Also if I had time I'd build an Ares (from Marvel) costume and just roleplay him, shouting stuff and being crazy awesome.

I used to but my buddies got so pissed at my kicking their arses every weekend that they banned me from playing anymore.

While I'm not anti-social, I'm not someone who can just jump into something new with just strangers very easily.

Even so, there isn't even a proper cinema in the nearby area. Let alone something like a LaRP system.

Sort of - I moved into a shared house that the previous inhabitants left stuffed with foam swords, staffs, helmets and the like (they even named the different rooms stuff like 'forest of Baragfar;the bits of paper were still up-poor derivative sods). Things got a little out of hand. When I get home from work, I am no longer Dan, but Drax The Abominator. And woe betide any mo'fo' what pinches my Cathedral City out of the fridge. There's no magic involved;I think if someone shouted 'no effect' at me, I'd just test the theory by hitting them over the head even harder. Yesterday I broke a broadsword over the head of 'Ovary-puncher Davies' The Welsh Dwarf that lives in a room upstairs, and knocked over a CD rack in the process. In retaliation he's pinched the cables for the Xbox and won't give em back. I'm thinking Davies will have to suffer at the hands of Drax and his Foam staff of Twattery tonight. There are holes in the plaster board all round the house, and bits of foam from weapons that have taken too much abuse. Should be a giggle when the landlord comes round to find his house has been turned into a poundstretcher version of Lord Of The Rings.

I've LARPd once, and had a lot of fun. I was an NPC (I wasn't even a mod lol), but I got to gamble (It was a Firefly LARP, we were on a casino ship) a lot, and was even a main event. My brother and I were a licensed fencing match (in game), that was totally awesome 'cause our match had 0 dice rolls. 100% on us, it was SO MUCH FUN.

I got everyone to drop their bets on me 'cause as soon as bets were opened, I walked over and dropped the rest of my cash on my self. People were going "Hot damn that's ballsy! MONEY ON THAT GUY."

=D

Which totally sucked, 'cause the odds being 3-1 that I would win, so everyone just got their money back when I actually DID win.

Oh well.

Me and my friends don't really LARP, but we own a lot of LARP weapons and an armory of NERF guns.
Just for the sake of beating the crap out of each other.
But my girlfriend attended a Firefly LARP, and was very positive about it.
May look into it.

firefly larp sounds awesome

I've donea fair bit of vampire the masquerade larp, first with mind eye theatre rules and then later we made our own rule system based on that.

Everything is better with Beer, or as I like to call it, drink of +10 everything. It makes you feel inexplicably rejuvenated, invicible and sexy.

OP, I don't LaRP myself, its one of those hobbies I like to read about and spectate yet wouldn't have the patience to actually do myself due to its constrictive rules, also I like taking part without prejudice and from what I gathered its more about arbitrary rules then actually taking part.

But I do admire the people who do it, I just can't mix with them.

I find it's an interesting pastime, not one for me personally however.

Don't think it'd be the thing for me. Sounds too much like physical activity to me :p
Never been interested in finding a LARP group or the like.
