This is as ridiculous as asking if male gamers always pick the male character. Or if all girls like pink clothes in games.
I play whatever character I think suits the role I want to play. In New Vegas I played an African American guy inspired by Eli from the book of Eli (though he was only blind in one eye due to being shot in the face by Benny. He even had an eye patch and all

). He was grizzled, old looking and lived in a shack, creating stuff from junk he had scavenged (that's how I got most of my weapons and armor, by crafting them). He was black because I felt it suited his character more. I don't think it would be the same if this character looked like Nathan Drake. In fact that would be horrible.
So my point is, people should only count race if they think it fits the role they want to play.
