drinking and playing halo 3 made me and my friends much better. and much more likely to yell at the other players for no reason. it was still fun though
i'm better at Halo 3 when i'm drunk because the unresponsiveness of my reflexes matches the unresponsiveness of Halo controls :p

If the game really stresses your reflexes, like fighting games do, they go sour with just one or two beers. It's not just that everybody plays worse. Reactive defense breaks down immediately, while attack combinations come from muscle memory and are barely affected. Bye-bye balance and mindgames. The winning strategy becomes using your best combinations over and over, since the opponent can no longer defend against them properly even if you are entirely predictable.

This has been done before. Someone talked about alcohol boosting his performance in Halo or whatever the hell that guy was gushing breathlessly about.

On topic: No, alcohol doesn't mix with games or indeed ANYTHING, most especially not vehicles. Not even in WoW (you literally swagger around on your mounts if you drink).

I tried out starcraft after 5+ beers, and everything seemed to move a bit faster than usual. You really have to concentrate to stay on the ball, but I managed to perform acceptably in a comp-stomp (which is all I can usually manage anyway, I'm not a pro SC gamer in the least). Also, I would estimate that I was able to mainitain at least 80% of my usual performance on the origninal Unreal Tournament after my 8th beer.

If you enjoy occasional binge drinking, (but not to the point of puking or blacking out) and are also a gamer, I recommend trying both at least once. I had a fun time, and you might as well. One last note, this is best done with one or more friends.
by "preform acceptably" mean that you avoided getting bsed? or that you were able to fend of the bs from the guy who just turtled carriers the whole time?

Anyway SC is a lot more fun when drunk, i hear your slightly better if your high as well, but i really dont believe it.

WTF does "bsed" mean?

Can't understand this either. "fend of the bs from the guy ..."?

If by more fun you mean auto-loss... :p

I was doing a comp-stomp, so there really wasn't any BS (bullsh**?) to put up with. It was just a friend and I against 2 zerg computer players. I'm pretty much a 9 year newbie at Starcraft.

I can whole heartily say no. My older brother tried playing games while drunk and it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. He'd lean over to the left or right to move in game, he kept shooting at the sky while laughing, and stated "Maaaan, playing games is haaaarrd when you're drunk!" He then later passed out in front of the apartment door, so we started taking funny pictures of him.

Afterwords, there was a lot of smashed Tostitos chips all over the place. (he tried eating them by smashing them onto his face.)

Ill try to clarify. BS means bullshitted in the SC world, its when someone unallies you and starts attacking you.

Also let me try to explain the "fending of the bs" remark. It basically means that you fend of the bullshit that comes from the guy who is "bsing" you. In SC, it is very easy to let your teammates do the work and build up a massive army, and when the game ends, you can just steamroll your allies. So "fending of the bs" includes destroying the army that this player has amassed throughout the game.

I wouldn't say alcohol improves the score, but without it me and many of my friends would not go near a Singstar mic. Luckily there's always enough alcohol wherever my friends are :)

Does being intoxicated help gaming performance in any game at any point? And if so, how much booze is needed to boost results? Also, does drunkeness, at any level, make gaming more enjoyable? For example is smashing Gears of War after having a few pints with friends more fun?

I find some games, like Halo 2/3, PGR4 and Prince of persia good games for drunken gaming. I don't mean stinking drunk, but a bit chippery, so that spirits are up. Also the poor cordination leads to all sorts of funny occasions. Much of this is of course due to playing the games with friends rather than alcohol, but anyway.
Being drunk makes you a staggeringly worse player, in the vast majority of games for the vast majority of people. That said, when you're drunk, any and all games are 1,000 times more fun. Especially WoW.

I drink socially, and when these events include gaming it's usually a session of Rock Band. Unfortunately the point at which I'm nicely, pleasurably drunk is the point where I become more of a liability than an asset to the group and end up failing the song.

Sometimes,as plenty of those here have attested to.I remember a couple of nights on World War II Online where a few of us would pull bunker duty/tower watch all night and make a regular party of it:Aussies drinking with Brits drinking with French drinking with US(all Brits and French ingame). We even had one guy (Jake LaMutha) pass out in a watch tower and and the base got hit and he slept at his comp through the whole thing.

It can also add a little flavor to RPGs if your character is in a tavern or bar to drink along with the game. For instance while playing TESIII Morrowind a while back...
{I was in the Council Club in Balmora to "fix" the Legion Fort Champion's problem,and some buddies stopped by with some bourbon.I left the game on and we drank it down.When the bottle was empty,I cleaned out the club.}

FPS games (esp. online)can suck if you're blitzed. As many have noted previously,Driving games can be a real hoot if you like to smash stuff up.GTA San Andreas was fun to go out in the country drinking and starting fights in the smaller towns(referred to as "Redneck Mode").

Well I took a bad game and ground it up into a powder and put it into some booze, it didn't taste well or mix into it. *Ba Dum Tsch*

Haven't tried drinking and gaming though.
