Someone told me that Vegas 2 was terrible and it's one of my favorites. Hell, one of my friends likes Too Human and Force Unleashed. They're NOT Superman 64. They are fun.

As a general rule I read reviews when I'm on the fence about a game; if the game mechanics are horribly broken or if the game's buggier than a cheap motel I want to know about that before I buy.

Beyond that I place absolutely no faith in scores because scores exist only to satisfy the corporate payola machine. I'm more interested in the substance of the writing (one reason I like the reviews on the Escapist, even if it seems like certain members of the staff love every game that comes their way---q.v. Susan Arendt's reviews of Fable 2, Animal Crossing City Folk, and Mirror's Edge.)

If I really want to know what a game's flaws are in no uncertain terms, that's what Yahtzee is for, but I don't base my buying decisions on his reviews or I'd never buy anything.
I love every game that comes my way? Good to know, that'll make it ever so much easier to write reviews in future.

Mirror's Edge was one of my favorites as well... Just fantastic, and I can't wait to play it on the PC in January

Y'know, I always find that in the movies and such, whatever the critics loved I always end up hating - and the movies that bomb and cause their production studios to close down are among my favorite films of all time.

Video games are the same way, and I don't trust most review sites to give me a definitive answer to the question, "Will I like the game?" Reviewers are people who provide an opinion about something, and I know that while many of them will talk about design and mechanics and controls, it's rather hard to pin down a mechanical, numeric system to say "Yes, this is a good game," or "No, do not buy this game."

I always judge whether I'll like a game by screenshots, development blogs, videos of gameplay, trailers, and the like - because with those, I form my opinion of the game. Someone else's opinion may be in line with mine, but then again, it may not be. You never know if you, personally, like a game until you see it, play it, and experience it.

apparently im the only person on earth who hates pokemon. i want to kill pokemon. i want to kill it till it dies.

i also liked navi. the reasons i dont think shes annoying is because she was pretty helpful, she wasnt voiced like most helper characters (which would have made her pretty annoying), and she didnt randomly pop up and start talking to you nearly as much as a lot of characters that actually deserve the hate that she gets.

speaking of ocarina of time, it wasnt a great game anyway. it was really just ok. i admit i never really played it until i got an emulated version a year ago, but it still had a few major problems that i really dont think can be excused by the fact that its so old.

i also majoras mask, and halo.

point is, just because you like it doesnt mean other people have to, and vice versa.

Don't worry I'm a Dynasty/Samurai/Orichi Warriors fan. I get this feeling EVERY time a new one comes out...

I haven't played any of those games. I want to play Fable 2 though.
I think Yahtzee and I are the only ones that didn't absolutely love Left 4 Dead though.

Take those out of that list now.
If F2 wasn't full of fail, then maybe. :p seriously though, I didn't like F2.
Can I refer you to an earlier post where I stated you could go to hell, but as you were kind enough to reply I will make sure they have a special corner reserved for you.

I'm going to side with the general consensus here and say that if you enjoy playing the game, then to hell with everyone who's telling you not to.

Somewhat related anecdote: I enjoy eating sushi, but the area I'm from (Southern Missouri)most of my friends all say the same theing, 'EWW thats so fucking gross, how can you eat that'. I still eat it whenever I get a chance, despite my friends' objections.

They're bad games? Who said that?

Also, why do you care of what other people say about the games you like?
If you're having fun then it shouldn't matter now should it?

Personally I wouldn't entitle any of those as the 'best games I've played' but that's just me. You might have different tastes.

One question to yall folks back at home though--
am I the only person left on the Internet that doesn't read any reviews at all?

I have a retarded neighbour that if he happens to read a bad review about a game which he already bought and loved, he actually starts to hate it. I shit you not ladies and gentlemen.
I found this excruciatingly funny. Is your neighbour perhaps a monkey of some sort? And, yes, you are the only person. In a long stretch of idiocy and feudalism, all of which reads reviews, you are alone. I hope you're proud of yourself.
I fall in the same category, except I just can't be asked to read, let me say that again, read, reviews. Generally they aren't entertaining, or they are pupose built to insult a small defect in the game to join in with the cool crowd and be "funny", as we saw with psychonaughts review telling people a game is great is like saying, did you want to see my latest etchings of a penny farthing?

So I gave up reading reviews reminding myself that either, its their to say the game is crap or the review is dull as fuck.

Edit: Now with commas!

I agree with you, those are some of the best games this year! However I believe there are alot of better games before this year and some people just see it as games just getting more shallow, don't let them tell you what you should like though.

You don't like bad games. Everyone has their preferences, and we all look for different things. My friend, for example, hates Fable 2 pretty much entirely because it doesn't have a
final boss battle
, and because it isn't difficult, yet I can see that the strongest points of the first game are even stronger in the sequel. Similarly, with Mirror's Edge, I see a game with a very strong presentation and an interesting concept marred by some poor design decisions and short length, yet you might love the sense of movement and freedom it offers you.

The fact of the matter is, what most people claim are "bad" games these days are actually quite good and very enjoyable despite their faults; the bar has merely been set so high that everything that isn't a high nine or ten apparently isn't worth playing, which is completely untrue. I've played more than enough enjoyable games that aren't the best-rated out there - take Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, for example, which, despite its poor controls and camera, horrible story, voice acting, music, etc., is still pretty entertaining. The culture of elitism we have teaches people to focus on the flaws of games and not their successors, as if any flaw more than a mild irritiation makes a game unplayable. Bullshit.

Also a familiar feeling for shmup fans. 2d fighter fans too, I think. Bottom line, if you enjoy it, be happy about that fact, no matter what other people say or think.
