Most of the games you've listed seem pretty average. The ones I've played (about two-thirds from your list) were definitely near-average, though I thought they all had their interesting aspects.(*)

So, a bunch of the games you listed were somewhat above average and got hyped or fanboyed into oblivion. You didn't seem to like these.

The rest of the games you listed -- the ones you liked -- were somewhat below average but probably get more flak than they deserve. You seemed to like these.

Maybe lowered expectations make it easier for you to enjoy more-or-less average games?

* - Here's what I thought about the ones I played. Gears 2, Bioshock, and Assassin's Creed are all games I quit after only a few hours of play, out of sheer unmitigated boredom. BioShock actually made me yearn for the plodding tedium of Half-Life 2. I played both Mass Effect and Fable 2 rather obsessively but feel very conflicted about them -- I enjoyed both games but ultimately consider them to be great disappointments. Fallout 3 I honestly like, but I consider it light and fluffy.

First of all I'm thanking God this didn't turn out to be a thread about fetishes.

And yes, you do love crap. Not that there's anything wrong with that. In any sense...

Dude, don't give in to peer pressure shit. If it entertains you, it could be a game of sheep fucking sharks for all you should care.

Maybe it's just that you're going into the game with lowered expectations due to all the negative feedback it's getting and are pleasantly surprised that it's not as terrible as it's made out to be, and that allows you to look past a lot of its flaws since you already knew about them, but thought they would be worse.

And similarly, maybe you dislike more popular games because of the raised expectations you get from all the good things you hear about them.

Whatever the case, all you should worry about is whether or not the game entertains you, not whether it entertains everybody else too.

I couldn't stand GTA IV, and I can't stop playing Saints' Row 2. Prince of Persia is boring, but I'll gladly spend 6 hours climbing buildings in Assassin's Creed. My favorite game is Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, which is the most broken piece of crap that ever hit shelves since Atari's ET.

I also didn't think Twilight was all that bad (even if the story was stupid), and I like Nickelback in small doses. I also have an unironic love for Mr. T and Silver Age Batman that gets me into trouble all over the Internets.

So clearly I have no taste and shouldn't go out in public. But then I remember that it's MY effing free time and I'm only going to spend it having fun, and often times crap is really fun. So *vomit* on you self-appointed cultural critics. Time to watch Birds of Prey!
Vampire wasn't broken, it was just ridiculously buggy. It needed a lot of in-game polish. The story, the sound, the visuals, aka, the setting, was wonderfully, and compellingly compiled. And don't even get me started on the voice acting.

One of the most under-rated RPGs ever made. Phenomenal game, you just had to get used to the glitches.

I apologize for being off topic.

My fans on these forums will attest to the fact that I won't shut the crap up about VtM:B no matter how many times I'm threatened, so I agree with you one hundred percent. But as the game needed an official patch just to run on most machines, and this thing didn't come out for months after the initial game did, most people consider it broken crap, and rightly so.

And you still should install one of the many unofficial patches just to unlock a good amount of content that for some reason got buried, and to get a lot of the sound cues and dialogue trees to work out. Don't get me wrong, the game is amazing once you get it working right. But again, that doesn't excuse the virtual pile Troika released. I know the whole affair killed them, which sucks. But I guess when you put design first in a corporate world, you eventually have to eat the poop cookies.

Generally "crap" is the wrong label for the games you're playing. Most games are still fun in some way because the developers are humans too and know what fun is even if they weren't successful with every idea they included in the game. Often a game gets colloquially called "bad" when it's below 85-90% because some people expect everything to be great. Real crap games are the kind that gets an average of less than 50%.

I think you find the 'fun' element in these games and prioritise this more importantly to games which whilst being advertised as being 'the best', might lack in your eyes any sense of real 'fun'.

Hell I know when dynasty warriors 2 was new, me and my friends played a helluva lot of that... and that wasn't a 'good' game. Repetitive and grindy... but hilariously fun with 2 people. It all boils down to how much fun you're getting out of it. If the 'high-brow' gaming doesn't offer this then... so be it, and crap ftw.

If you like crap, good for you.

Take what other gamers give you with a good nature, because you WILL get ribbed, and you'll need to have a chip on your shoulder.

But if you're enjoying your hobby, enjoy it however you want :)

We've all heard about how bad certain games, like Too Human and Spiderman: Web of Shadows, Ironman, and Force Unleashed are. We've all heard how great, or decent, certian games like Mass Effect and BioShock and Fallout 3 are.

So why, when I own games like Mass Effect, Bioshock, Fallout 3, Gears of War 2, Mercenaries 2, Fable 2... have I spent the majority of my time playing games like Dynasty Warriors 6, Assasins Creed (I played the HELL out of that game), Spiderman: WoS (I did all the side quests, biatch), Force Unleashed (all the unlocks the bug I got lets me get, including both end costumes and the black light saber) and now, I find I really get into Ironman and I LOVE Too Human.

I mean, admittedly I did play a good bit of Mass Effect, Fallout 3, and BioShock, eventually I just put them down and never got back into them. I was never able to force myself to play more then the first mission in Dead Rising (got pissed when my camera ran out of batteries and I had no idea it'd do that), and playing through Fable 2 is like pulling teeth for me.

Do I just love crap?

I'm honestly concerned. At first I just chaulked it up to my ADD, but... I can SEE the flaws in these games, but I just don't -care- for some reason.
It just seems to me like you like mindless beat-'em-up action and dislike games that focus on story or complexity (or both).

Nothing wrong, or even inherently unintelligent about preferring senseless violence. It just means you embrace the "living out fantasies" part of escapism more than the "drawn into another world" aspect.
Exactly how I feel. I could spend my time playing Half-Life 2 on my PS3 (which I still think is one of the greatest games ever made), but I end up spending hours on Unreal Tournament 3, which is mindless, senseless and violent. And I actually spend most of my time playing Dynasty Warriors: Gundam rather than all the brilliantly fantastic games out there.

EDIT: And Halo, I do enjoy Halo for some bizarre reason...but not Gears of War, I can't stand that sometimes.

Asking your horrible little question fills me with rage. Of course you like crap, it's not stuff that I'm pla-
Oh, they are.

The games you list are popular in their own right. It's not like you admitted to liking GunZ, or anything worse than what I regularly play. I doubt that you have the correct version of the ideal gamer in your mind; (as that would be me) but I think that the tortured monstrosity that you aspire to be is rather shallow. Just because a game is popular doesn't mean it's any good, just take a look at World of Wa-

No, fun is fun. Games are supposed to be enjoyable. Just because most people like Bioshock (i'm most people here) doesn't mean you have to.

Unless you think the games you play are crap, then you do just love crap.
