Okay, so I'm sitting at the computer with iTunes on, listening to The Sultans of Swing. Suddenly, I hear the words 'opticians in other places'. Startled, I Google the lyrics, and they actually read 'competition in other places'. My question to you is, has this ever happened to you? Have you ever misheard lyrics in a song and thought you heard something completely retarded, like the above?

Yes, but I can't remember an anecdote.

The closest thing I remember is watching Kerrang at a friends house and trying to figure out what the hell the lyrics to Smells like Teen Spirit were.
I made the mistake of putting subtitles on and was confused for the rest of the day.

Of course, hasn't it happened to everyone?

I was listening to Hurt by Nine Inch Nails, and the odd line was "I'm a pile of darts".

Turned out it was "My empire of dirt".

:\

When some kid brought his iPod boomboz to school and breakdanced to beats. He played that Lil Jon (you know the one I'm talking about). At first I thought I was just dillusional and thought "Did I just hear him say s***t *that* many times?"

In fairness, he did say the first one on several occasions to parody himself :D

Listen to the song Wishmaster by Nightwish. Then go check out some video with the 'modified' words and quite astonishlignly you can't really tell the difference between the pronounciation of the words.

A version of Wishmaster with misheard lyrics.

http://www.video4viet.com/watchvideo.html?id=PskulEVlVPY&title=Wishmaster+-+Nightwish+-+Misheard+Lyrics

EDIT: Original lyrics

"Master!
Apprentice!
Heartborne, 7th Seeker
Warrior!
Disciple!
In me the Wishmaster"

Misheard lyrics

"Bast**d!
A Dentist
Hard P**n
Sea and Seagull
Warrior
This Rifle
Hurley, The Fishmaster"

Ahhhh, some of those are hilarious!
Also, 'The Sharpest Lives' by My Chemical Romance was parodied with misheard lyrics, involving the 'centipentipede'. Suffice to say, that song got so much more awesome.

I was also confused by this song although it was the original Johnny cash version, I kept hearing "you can have my ball" instead of you can have it all, I though it was a strange line in a song, I blame his drawling accent.

I also thought this was the line for rather a long time... though "The girl with kaleidoscope eyes" doesn't make much more sense...

In "All My Life" by Foo Fighters, when Dave G sings "I love it but I hate the taste" in the chorus. For the longest time I thought it was "I love it like Hippocrates". Needless to say, I was pretty confused till I looked up the lyrics.
