Find an Indie music club, or the Indie music society at your uni, and go along. Not everyone there is on that sort of quirky wavelength (obviously) but yeah, you'll find people like that in those kind of places. Obviously it's not the same because they're movie characters who have every line written to some kind of purpose. But there are people that are kind of like that. Go to venues and bars that proudly proclaim 'Sonic Youth played here'. Oh, and go to Camden.

EDIT: And Juno, the most recent archetype of 'quirky indie girl', was written by a woman. Which explains why Juno herself is a lot better rounded than most other female characters I think. It's a hard thing to write from another gender's POV. For anyone that's read any books by the Bronte sisters, try to find a scene where there are two men alone in a room, without a female character able to overhear it, etc.

Arriving at University last week I was told that I would meet many interesting and different people during "Freshers" and, obviously, being male, I contemplated what kind of girls I would meet here. Well the answer is: the same kind of girl that I seem to find in most places.

I can't speak to women in London, but in the places I've lived (Boston and Reno) and the places I've traveled (a fair-sized chunk of the US and Canada) I can say that there is a wide variety of women available if you know where to look. Down-home country girls who are all sweetness and Jesus in public but can fuck like pornstars, slutty club girls, girls who "go clubbing" but aren't slutty in the least, quirky artist girls, cute geeks, sweethearts, materialistic whores, and anything else you can imagine.

Except in Reno. Here they're all either on meth, trashy to the point of "what trailer park did they let you out of?", or on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, spoiled, bitchy trust-fund queens who want to see your bank account and stock portfolio before they'll accept a first date. I won't date Wasteland girls.

Well I'm living proof that geeky/tomboysih girls do exist in London, and I did go to a uni in London. Didn't meet a lot of other girls like me though, or guys for that matter. Anyway my point is, they do exist you just haven't met them yet. Especially if they're as shy/anti-social as me. Also, don't judge a book by its cover, get to know a girl first and you might have more in common than you thought.

Anyway, probably not. The "Manic Pixie Dream-girl" as I believe they are called, exists only too mature the protagonist, and her quirks exist to make it seem plausible that she'd go out with the protagonist, who in these movies is often rather nerdy.

Seeing the clubers and people who get do drunk they will go for anything with a penis, are usually out in the open to find their next ***** and the women that your looking for are smart and realize it's not a good idea to mix with those sluts.
Try joining a club or going to certain events going on around your school. I have met some fantastic guys this way. The thing you need to realize is that some movies (such as Judd Apatow) are just an exaggeration of what people want to see happen in real life or something that would be pretty sweet to do!

Yes and no. Juno was an idealized auto-biography of a myspace attention whore. The qualities exibited by those characters are idealized visions of how every girl sees themselves.

If you're looking for an intelligent, educated girl, stop. No one thinks they're stupid or ignorant.
If you're looking for an imaginative, eccentric, and/or quirky girl, stop. Because these are simply positive spins on aloofness and insanity.

If you're looking for a girl capable of realizing she isn't as strong or smart as she thinks she is, stop. As that doesn't happen without extensive trauma.

Same thing happened to me, what did I do? I went online, found a girl who is absolutely perfect for me who lived in Canada. Gave up my sweet job/car/life and went for it and I couldn't be happier. I tried a number of dating websites but eHarmoney did it for me, I know a guy who found love in London with Match.com. I am saying all this because girls like this tend to have more confidence online than they do talking to guys in real life so starting in their comfort zone and going on from there seems to be a pretty good idea...also you may come across the Holy Grail of girls: attractive, great sense of humor, and plays video games.

I know lots of girls like that, but I hang out in places where girls like that go. Places with open mic nights for people with acoustic guitars for instance. One of my best friends is one of those girls and the only reason we're friends is because of music. Check out art and literature departments. I'm in hard science, so a large number of girls there are into video games.
