I don't think it's needed, persay, but if Cameron puts as much work into the development of a sequel, I would see it on the principle that I liked the first one and Cameron's good track record with sequels.
But on the other hand, I'd be perfectly happy if they didn't make a sequel. While it might not be a bad film when it all comes together, I'm still vaguely disgusted that a sequel has to be made to pimp out more money from a film that's already grossed over $1 Billion USD.

Sad, sad capitalism.

The sequel will be 'The Empire Strikes Back' in a nutshell, betting a hundred quid on that.

Why do we always have to have a sequel? If something is great, then let it stand. Next he'll be wanting to make a sequel to Titanic where Jack comes back.
Ahem. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nK_Jv4RIzpU] It wouldn't be that bad.

if u have not heard the news, James Cameron has annouced he will be making an avatar sequel. The question is: Can the story go anywhere from here? The story of avatar was decent and it seemed final at the end. I can't possibly think of a good sequel to the movie with a good story. So when he makes the sequel will it be good? Bad? And where the hell is the story suppost to go from here? the planet getting a tumor or getting hit by an astroid?
NO avatar was absolutely boring and had a sloppy unoriginal story, I don't want a sequel, but as everyone shoved their wallets down Camerons throat I'm positive we'll have sequel(s) and prequel(s). And there are plenty of paths the movie can take, which actually might fill the plothole of *If the humans are forced to leave the planet by the blue smurfs whats keeping them from just bombing the planet from orbit, and what kept them from doing that long before, and how did a bunch of retreating smurfs after a battle with a platoon of marines suddenly take over an entire military base?*

It doesn't matter, any story can be given to these smurfs in space and people will come running with money in hand to see it, quite literally Cameron could make some new space threat of evil aliens that spread like a disease using the bodies of organisms to reproduce its breed of xenomorphic space monsters. At least then it will be a movie I might see as when I was in the theater watching Avatar the only thing that made the experience enjoyable was daydreaming that this could spawn Aliens 5 with Ripley kicking more @ss

But... its over. The world was pretty, and the characters were...present. Unless the Humans attack again or it is in fact a prequel (tried with the game and failed miserably) then it will just seem like a cash-in. Cameron should go out and find some other magical adventure land to blow up.

Some people think sequels are cursed. But you have to look at the good ones. Terminator 2 was quite good. Star Trek 2:Wrath of Khan. Spider-Man 2.

The Empire Strikes back can be called a sequel, because George had no idea if Star Wars was going to be successful enough to warrant one. Which is why the movie has closure, and the original title simply read "Star Wars" in the opening crawl. Same with Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Predator 2. Aliens. Bad Boys 2, if you don't hate Michael Bay.

Although I'm not sure where Avatar would go with a sequel. Give it a shot, I guess. More than 1.8 billion dollars seems to indicate a hit.

No, because I haven't seen Avatar because I trying to stay as far away from mainstream as possible.

I know I am being biased but I don't give a fuck

Of course it can be continued, the humans were not killed but chased back to earth, the big pile of metal is still under the remains of the giant tree and mankind hasn't learned the "we need to take care of nature"-thing.

But do we need it? NO!!! The first one was a horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE piece of cinema.
If you think that was horrible, what do you think of Michael Bay?

I always try to stay at least ten feat away from mainstream, but this was a James Cameron movie, which is the only reason why I saw it. I found it better than the trailers.

Yes it should and it should just be an Assassin's Creed style movie with lots of running and climbing and stabbing having nothing to do with the first *Maniacal Laughter*

No. No. No. No. No.

A sequel to Avatar is a bad idea... sure they want more money but I mean, it's not set around anything. The credibility will be ruined if it rips another story, and if it doesn't, the story will probably be awful.
