I agree totally, and since an FPS is obviously from a first person view, It should be what they/you would see. The graphic overload would work well. and again, Pokemon is its own style they have perfected, good on yah Pokemon creators!

To be honest, I enjoyed playing micromachines on the NES with a friend more than most modern games.

Games these days are all about internet socialization. I perfer being able to mock my defeated opponent to his/her face. xD

Shigesato Itoi, creator of the Mother/Earthbound series, says that you are more likely to feel for sprites. He's quirky but I think he's right. I loved all the characters in the series and genuinely felt for them.

Meh. Take Silent Hill 3 as a benchmark. Any less realistic and it's hard to take seriously. There are exceptions, of course. Grim Fandango comes to mind.
I'm talking about first person or over the shoulder games, of course.
