Do WOW players talk about anything other than WOW?

I played WOW with the same bunch of friends (more or less) for 3 years.

Shortly before WOTLK release I decided to call it quits, I was exhaused from 2 years of leading/organising raids and yelling over vent. So, I left and got my farewells: "damn you're leaving? gl+hf mate, coming back?" NOOO.

Anyway, of course, these friends are still smacking up with their daily dose of WOW on our old ventrilo server. But I can't bare to be in ventrilo for more than 5 minutes. I can't get a word in because they never stop talking about WOW 24/7. ZZZZZZZZZ.

Anyone else have any WOW friends who fail at being friends?

No, none of my friends play it.
I play it tho, and I barely talk about it at all.

when you play wow you commit your life to it. You have nothing else to talk about because all you do is wow.

That's exactly the same situation for me. I gave up before WotLK came out after playing WoW for 3 years. Now whenever I talk to any friends who I used to play with all they EVER talk about is WoW >_>

And if I bring up another conversation such as "Seen any films" or "Seen My Name is Earl" it justs goes silent... then to "Yeah....." and then back to WoW talk. I also can't see 'em without 'em trying to get me to play again >.<

I do find some of the anecdotes of bad groups etc funny but it is all there ever is 24/7.

WOW people are by definition obsessives. To the point where they can't do things in RL because it conflicts with their WOW schedule. But whatever floats their boat. It scares me a little. I once dated a girl (one date) who had her faction's logo tattooed on her arm and wanted to show me her WOW character ON THE FIRST DATE...bizarre.

Mind you, I once played 36 matchmade games on the bounce in Halo3 and have played Oblivion all night more times than I care to think about so who am I to talk...

Nah, my friends and I only talk WoW when we play WoW. To the extent that if anything interesting happened to our alts, we only mention it while playing together on our mains. Real life's just too interesting.

Oh, EDIT: Though I understand if the friends you mention were met over WoW. I mean, if that's not your only common ground, then sure as heck it's your main one.

They fail at being friends because.. they refuse to listen to your demand they stop talking about a game they're playing?

I've got plenty of friends who play WoW, they all have lives, they all talk about other stuff, whatever your problem is it isnt with the game.

I used to play WoW with a bunch of uni friends but we rarely talked about it when we were with people who didn't know/care about it. Its just common courtesy.

Let's see, I'm a WoW player, let's see what happens if I talk.

So, anyone seen the new Star Trek? I've been hearing really mixed things about it. It seems to be divided between the casual fans and the hardcore fans, and I consider myself a casual fan, so I should enjoy it. I do think it is kind of fan service to put Nimoy in the role of Spock, even if he is future Spock.

They do, but don't really like to. I'd guess WoW makes up at least half of thier dialogue.

The Star Trek movie is great. And what's really clever is it's been done in a way that the hardcore fans can't pick fault with....I will say no more.
