No. Vader was better. So was Han Solo. I even liked the Droids better. Oh sure, when I was about, what, 8 years old, I cheered him on like the dumb, moron I was, but even THEN I still liked R2D2 more, and that was a blue/white trashcan with wheels that just beeped and whistled at a lot. Which means that Luke Skywalker was LESS LIKEABLE than a blue/white trashcan on wheels that beeps and whistles a lot. I stand by that statement.
It shows you why Mark Hamil never had a good acting career after that. He is almost overshadowed by any other character, even the bit ones like Boba Fett and that creepy advisor to Jabba. He was just..... uninteresting. He was basically a 20-something "good-ole boy" from Kansas, with almost no interesting personality or funny lines.
He wasn't a BAD character, and no doubt the story is about him and he is essential to it, and it wouldn't be star-wars without Luke or Jedis and he is the main character, but I always felt that it was the other cast that made it interesting.

Actually...Luke Skywalker wasn't a good character but to the people saying that Mark Hamill wasn't good I would like you to watch Empire Strikes Back.
The character of Yoda only worked cause Mark Hamill did a good job when acting with it. Everyone could see that Yoda was a puppet even by the 80's standards, Mark did a good job when he was on scene with Yoda, he transmitted the feeling that Yoda was a living creature, cause he believed in it!

I don't know, when I was younger I found him completely uninteresting. But I saw a few of the true Star Wars movies very recently, and I really liked Luke. Don't know what it was, but I was able to see thing that I had previously missed. It kinda breathed new life into the old movies for me.
Yeah I'm really psyched for those. Imagine the fun and exiting fight scenes they could have now hes the one. As long as they don't go overboard with the religious symbolism, that would be silly. As if.dontworryaboutit said:

He was more interesting in the Expanded Universe.
