"Women have always been the primary victims of war. Women lose their husbands, their fathers, their sons in combat."
- Hillary Clinton.

I Think this is a load of crap. I mean sure, it would be bad to lose a family member but it would be a whole lot worse to die in combat. I believe the true "Victims" of war are the civilians that die when they have no part in the war. What are your opinions on this quote?

Everyone's a victim, whether they sign up to it out of a misguided sense of patriotism or they're caught in the crossfire.

Implying of course that men and only men serve in combat. Implying that women have never once died in wars. Implying that anyone who loses a brother, friend, father, or son to a war is automatically a woman.

Fuck Hillary and her bullshit. If she runs, I'll vote Republican.

Dead people usually don't suffer for very long after the fact, living people do.

I would say the maimed and wounded usually have it the worst.

Also, putting the quote in its full context or linking to it would be nice.

I don't think it was intended to be as de-facto as it sounds. I consider it more food for thought than anything. Highly doubt a possible future president would outright say "Nobody suffers as much as weeee do!".

Civilian deaths are just as harmful as soldiers death. In large and total wars, soldiers are just civilians forced to take up arms.

The full quote, as delivered to something in El Salvador includes:
Women are often the refugees from conflict and sometimes, more frequently in today's warfare, victims.
Context is important.

I'd say children suffer more. as an adult, you usually have yur shit together, so if a family member dies, there's less impact. As a child, you lose one of half of the pairing that raises and loves you. Plus you go into that world of meeting new people who are supposed to be your father even though father is now in a box.

To quote Socrates! "In peacetime the sons bury their fathers, in war the fathers bury their sons" Don't try to make it look like only the mother is suffering, hilly.

Aren't family members of the dead a secondary victim by definition? Primary victim: Person who's been attacked by someone else.

Whatever you say, Hillary.

Well the dead people don't have anything.... I would prefer to be seriously injured (not fatally) then dead.

Well the perception has always been "it's not suffering if it happens to a man". That's why so many laws protect women from men but very few take into account the fact that women do bad things too.

Depends on whether or not she knows she has the feminist lobby on her side.

Eh, the maimed and wounded can still live. Their lives (mostly) forever changed, yes, but the dead are... dead.

As for the topic, I could see how it could be true back in the day when men were responsible for providing for and taking care of the family.

There are no 'primary' victims of war. What a load of crap. These husbands, fathers and sons she mentions also lose their lives
