"Hmm... For ages women weren't allowed in the military? There's got to be some way to make them the victims... I KNOW, THEY'RE ALL HOUSEWIVES!!"

UK, huh? Yeah, you guys would think all patriotism is misguided. Suck a dick. I didn't go on tour twice for no good reason.
Not all patriotism, I for one love my country. I wouldn't join the army though, as I've never been convinced that the wars in my era have been worth fighting, when human life is the cost. I might be wrong though, why did you join?

Well the perception has always been "it's not suffering if it happens to a man". That's why so many laws protect women from men but very few take into account the fact that women do bad things too.

Depends on whether or not she knows she has the feminist lobby on her side.
A.) Lol feminist lobby. They sure have political clout, what with that ERA they haven't been able to get passed for longer than almost everyone on this forum has been alive.
B.) The quote is over a decade old, she wasn't even a Senator then. She was a First Lady.

Would you die for your country? Most wars are over stupid things and so many people die for no reason because there country finds them expendable.

legally they arent allowed to serve on the fronlines in the UK/US.
OT: as people have said before, the whole family suffers. so does the rest of the unit, and the friends of the soldier back home.

Not to but in here, but I personally believe that although war can arise from stupid and petty situations (WWI, Vietnam, Iraq) the soldiers who fight so the war will end are still heroes.

To use an imperfect analogy; if I start a fire in my house for a really stupid reason (say, spreading gasoline on the wall thinking it was paint, idk), the firemen who risk their lives to put it out are heroes even though their life is in danger because of an idiot.

Well those who lose their lives suffer the most, when you think about it... I mean they literally cease to exist in any form, as far as they're concerned.
However it'd be silly to say only the soldiers suffer, the family of a dead soldier suffers too, largely due to financial reasons, I imagine.
To be frank, I don't really understand why people actually want to go to war, I don't understand patriotism... okay, well I understand how it's formed(hooray for indoctrination from a young age, I guess?), but I fail to see the benefit of it to the person him- or herself. I mean I'd never go to war for my country, or any other country for that matter... nor for anything else, really.
War is something that makes me feel ashamed of the human race, or rather violence and rampant stupidity and irrationality in general. Ah well, too bad we don't live in an utopia.

[Women are the] primary sufferers? Maybe. Victims? I don't think so.

The Victims of war are those who get shot in the head and die a painful but (hopefully) quick death. And the dead don't care about suffering.

And Clinton could have easily shrugged off all the flak from the, ironic sexism, allegations put forth here, by saying "Women lose their husbands, their fathers, their daughters and sons in combat." Presto.

Huh, they should hire me to write speeches. The MLP references would be glorious!!

I forgot we're in the 1800's and women can't vote.

They are heroes but of a battle that should not have been fought though. I could not think of a single reason I would want to join the army. I'm sure there would be a lot less wars if those that start them had to be in the front lines.

Just no. Everyone is a victim in war, the soldiers, the mourners, the innocent victims, everyone. If I had to choose the primary victims of war, it would be the innocent civilians, regardless of gender.
I'd specifically put soldiers and children as the bigger victim. Losing a family member to war is absolutely horrible and you will possibly never forget it, but you're an adult and you'll live.

Everyone's a victim expect those who make money from it.
and by Hillary Clintons logic rape is worse than murder, some might agree to that but certainly not me losing your life is far far far worse than emotional damage imho

Let me get this straight. You are seriously looking for words of wisdom from Hillary Clinton?

Well, obviously this is stupid. Dying from bleeding and horrible pain while watching your friends' bodies after you lost an arm or leg seems a little harder.

And seriously, what did you expect? She isn't counting on any males to vote for her that's why she's saying utter trash that only stupid women support.

Also people, please don't quote me on the second part because this thread isn't about war.

oh god here come's the onslaught of feminism shooting out everywhere over a quote that is old as hell and has been taken out of context to try and rumble up flames..

OT: everyone at some point or another is a victim, some more so than others, but arguing over this ridiculous quote is ridiculous.

Like said before, I doubt that this isn't being taken out of context. I don't really care for her, but she isn't stupid. Everyone loses in war. It is tragic when any of us loses a loved one, especially to war or other line of duty deaths.

They are victims. Its not a load of shit, there's a very large debate about if/how anyone is the primary victim, but apart from that the point is entirely valid. She is a woman, so yeah, no shit that would be her first consideration.

How about you go suck a dick just cause one guy phrased his opinion in a hurtful(to you) way doesn't mean you can take the piss out of a whole country.
How about YOU go suck a dick, because you told someone to go suck a dick and that's not very nice at all.
To be fair, the other one said it first. Let's all suck dicks!

I Think this is a load of crap. I mean sure, it would be bad to lose a family member but it would be a whole lot worse to die in combat. I believe the true "Victims" of war are the civilians that die when they have no part in the war. What are your opinions on this quote?
I don't think I could put it better than:

"Do you know what you get for being a hero? Nothin'. You get shot at. Pat on the back, blah blah blah. 'Attaboy.' You get divorced... Your wife can't remember your last name, kids don't want to talk to you... You get to eat a lot of meals by yourself. Trust me kid, nobody wants to be that guy. [I do this] because there is nobody else to do it right now. Believe me if there was somebody else to do it, I would let them do it. There's not, so [I'm] doing it. That's what makes you that guy."

-Bruce Willis "Live Free or Die Hard"

EDIT:
Everyone's a "victim," you just have to look at it from a different perspective, I still think soldiers get the short end of the stick though.
