Do you always respect other people's opinion? (be it about games, movies and music)

I tend to respect them unless they either A) The person insults my opinions or me for having them or B) I think their opinion is INCREADIBLY bad. Like saying rape is just fine and jolly. Or that Fox new is an unbiased and reliable news source. That kinda bad. As a rule I love to debate/argue with people about their opinions, I do it with friends a lot, but in the end I always go with the whole "agree to disagree" thing and let it all drop.

Nope, I pretty much always think I'm right unless I have evidence right in front of me.

Arguing with me usually consists of, "WELL MYTHBUSTERS DID IT AND IT WORKS" "Send me it on Facebook later, skipper. Until then, shoo."

I don't go so far as IGNORING people for it though. I don't get that worked up, I just think that everyone is an idiot. I hear that's part of being 19, though.

I'm fine with people who tolerate the opinions/tastes of others.

EG.
Oh, you're into MMO's, well I don't like them but whatever.

But I hate people who are fanatical about it.

EG.
MMO's are the be all and end all to gaming, if you don't like them then you're mentally sick or just a nooooooooooooooooooob.

I love different opinions, because that helps me pick what movies I should watch.

My friends and I always have different opinions when it comes to the things we like, entertainment wise, and we always share those opinions with each other. I think it's a good way to broaden horizons and such. A great example is my friend was in love with 88 Minutes. When I watched it, I didn't think that it was that good, but we were able to share our thoughts without killing each other.

i totally respect peoples opinions. if someone doesnt like a video game, movie, or band i like, i dont care. BUT if they are being assholes and just saying im wrong they suck(i get this alot cause im a metalhead, and people constantly say the bands i love suck)they can fuck off. and usually those people like the Jonas Brothers, or Lil Wayne or some crap

I do my best, honestly, but when it comes to movies, I'm an utter snob. It comes with being a film student. When a friend of mine tells me that Ghost Rider was an awesome movie, there's only so much I can hold back.

I'm good with music. Except dub step. I fucking hate dub step.

I usually try to respect opinions even when said opinions are based more on conventional wisdom rather than the truth. I don't always succeed however.

No, not if it differs from mine. We can't both be right so one of us should concede that the other is. This is the point of discussion. To say "it's your opinion" ruins that.

OF COURSE it's my opinion, now this is why I feel this way and why any human being should think the same.

I respect everyone's right to HAVE an opinion, but I don't respect every person's opinion.

Almost everyone at my workplace listens to most forms of modern beat, rap, pop, and well, all the new stuff. It's not my favorite type of music, but I listen anyway, as it passes the time.

On late night shifts, people plug their Mp3's and iPods to a dock station/Loudspeaker, and blast it away. Now, one time I was the only one who had an iPod, so they asked if I could plug it in. I said "Sure, but I don't think that most of you would like what I have." and they said they would be fine with it.

So I plugs it in, annd hit shuffle, and some song comes on, I don't remember what it was, except that it had a good beat to it. Half a second later, someone pulls my iPod out, declares loudly that my taste in music is cpmplete load of toss and handed back my iPod.

He then asks what I listen to, and I tells him, and again he says that it's a lot of rubbish, and says I should try listening to his types of music. I says I have and that it isn't my thing, and again he says that it's bullshit.

I says, "Well, look here, you have an opinion! Your opinion is that my music is shit, and my opinion is that I really don't care about your music."

The remainder of the shift he tried to 'convert' me to his style of music.

Respect their opinion? Of course not. Well, suppose it would depend on whether or not their "opinion" was supposed to be fact. In your examples, they are opinions, I didn't mind Transformers, or the 2nd movie, but that doesn't mean anything. Shooting people down for their likes and dislikes is pointless.

Now, if a person were to hypothetically say something thats entirely wrong as an 'opinion', like playing video games is only for shut-ins, or only gay people smoke Camel cigs (I've heard both of these recently, actually), I'd probably put out my Camel in their eye, and if I could lock them in a room watching X-play for about 2 years.

The biggest point is not so much whether or not to respect opinions, but whether or not an 'opinion' is actually that, or a mentally blind individual spouting prejudiced, generalized hate. Those types don't really deserve any respect for their ridiculous 'opinions' whereas those with an honest take on something could be worth listening to, to give you a unique perspective you may not have noticed.

People like what they like, but i think a lot of them are full of crap and I tell them so.

I'll say I don't have much respect for people who like what I hate.

Unless they happen to be a fascist, I can accept there are reasons why people might've come to any number of viewpoints on various topics and, generally, I can leave it at that.

I respect someone's opinion until they prove they know shit. (It's usually a matter of "when", and not "if".) And then I never listen to them again.
