Do you assume people on the internet are from the same country as you?

Since I'm from the U.S., I'll admit I'm guilty of this from time to time. What about the rest of you, Escapists?

EDIT: Before anyone asks, I did search bar (I love how that's a verb here), and found nothing.

I start my post thinking everyone is from California, U.S.A., then before I post I go back through and re-word the whole thing.

nah, not really... though I do find that there are quite a few people from the UK, at least on here.

I usually assume they're from the UK. I'm form the U.S., but idk, maybe my subcounscious just relates intelligent answers to other nationalities lol.

No, though it doesn't surprise me when I notice someone from the same country (that'd be Iceland).

I always assume that everyone is from the U.S.
because of the stupid things that most of them say.

(No offense to any Americans)

Never, but I see other people do it all the time. I also love 'fall' release dates from publishers. Not only do I not call it fall, it's usually spring where I come from.

not really. But which nationality I think people have depends on if you mean when I play online or when I read at forums. If online gaming I usually assumes people are from central/eastern Europe, probably because most folk in my first wow guild were eastern eurpeans. Hovewer when I read at forums I tend to believe people are either from US or UK.

I never considered it before now. I suppose I do, oddly enough. I generally assume that if the user's speaking English, they're from the USA. Weird.

No, I never do that. I'm actually surprised when I find someone from my country here.

I'm American, and depends on the site. On the Escapist, I, if anything, assume that the person is from the UK. They seem to be the most vocal section of the Escapist, until someone makes a gross generalization about Americans. On other sites...well, the only other place I really post is predominately American, so yeah, I usually safely assume they are American. Elsewhere on the internet, I tend to just naturally think of the other people as American, until something comes up where nationality might be important: Then, I question it.

I'm Finnish, so no. Plenty of internet users here, but it's still a small country.

I usually assume people are from US or if not, Europe.

No, I'm Irish, so we're in the minority.

However, and I apologize in advance for this, whenever someones being an idiot I usually assume they're American.

The sad thing is, they usually are.
Same. Though in my defence, it's usually something about current political issues in US or some silly Christian ranting... (Europe seems a lot more secularized overall.)

No. I've met a couple Canadians on the internet, but I mostly assume people are from America or Europe... don't know why, really.

No, I'm English but I've known people from most every corner from the world on the internet. I'm often interested to see how eloquent and well spoken some of those who don't have English as a first language are (not to mention impressed - I wish I could manage a second (or third) language), but I generally don't make any geographic assumptions.
