Considering that relationships are adversarial by nature its hard to believe that love exists. I've seen too many people ruin their lives because they were 'in love'. Its a chemical reaction intended to keep mates together long enough to spawn and wain offspring. By that its a temporary condition. When it fades what's left? This is why the divorce rate is so high in nations that have no-fault divorce readily available.

I beleive love, and all forms of affection at least in people ages 18 from 22, is a joke, survival of the fittest and dumbest thrives during this day and age

Yes, love is real, but it's not some divine, ineffable experience like people like to pretend it is. Love is a chemical process in which one human being becomes emotionally and physically attached to another as a means of ensuring procreation.

I actually did some research on it, and what I found is romantic love is reallly more of an addiction than an emotion. Vasopressin, a chemical which "promotes attachment and also allows social recognition," oxytocin, which "is associated with feelings of attachment," and dopamine, which produces feelings of pleasure. These chemicals combine to form an addiction to our mate, and are no different to chemicals released by someone injecting an addictive substance into themselves. (Source: http://people.howstuffworks.com/why-do-we-love.htm)

So does love exist? Yes, it's whats guaranteed our ability to procreate as a monogamous species, but thinking about love like this sounds a lot more cold and mechanical than most people are willing to accept. I guess stuff like chemical releases and evolution don't make for good sonnets.

Haha yep, I sure do.

I mean, I know love is just a mixture of chemicals relesed by our bodies, but it sure feels good. It's just a shame I found it, 'cos now it's gone, I miss it really really badly.

What else can I say, it's up to you
I know we're one, just me and you
I can't go on

What is love
Oh baby, don't hurt me
Don't hurt me no more
What is love

Love is as real as math and any other idea without form. To deny love is to deny everything man has ever invented.

This should be a poll, surely :/

Love, Hate, Fear - all a bunch of instincts/hormones/emotions that hijack our rational thought processes as intended by our biological imperative: To survive, bone or be boned.

My father said he's wasted his life indulging his 'selfish gene', falling in love repeatedly. As a 67-year-old he's now trying to find purpose to all of it, and failing.

For some reason I first read this as "Do you believe in Iowa?" before seeing what it actually said. Yes, though I think it did develop from a the primal instinct of reproduction (that all animals including humans have in them) I guess its like that but with human emotions making it more complicated.

Love is like Russian Roulette ... You could get lucky or you could be VERY unlucky.

I have long since given up on finding love.
Of course that means I still believe in it. It's just not something that was meant for me.

I've been in love. I could imagine living out the rest of my life with that person.

Once, he and I were staring into each other's eyes (cliche, I know) and I knew at that moment that if I forgot my name, my memories, everything I was, I would still be utterly content because what he made me feel was beyond that, it was in my soul.

And then that love faded. It happens. not all real love is eternal.
