I try not to unless the games not on steam or if I just want to get the game fast for what ever reason.

I haven't bought from Gamestop in awhile now. A local store opened up recently, and there's a really good electronics store I prefer over everything else (wonderful prices. Picked up Halo Wars for $5 a year after release).

Though I've got no problem shopping from Gamestop. Apparently, I've got the only good one. If you ask for a wrapped copy, they'll get you one, though I never care. Its the same game. Personally, I think the majority of people who hate Gamestop just hate it because they feel its the cool thing to do.

Nowhere else will let me pay off a game with trade-ins or in installments so, as a cash strapped gamer, where else am I supposed to buy me games from? Since I'm really only buying the latest games now, I only buy at Gamestop.

Yeah sure. It's close to my house and sells the same thing everyone else would.

I shop at Gamestops that I know have good customer service and know what they're talking about. I have 2 different districts of Gamestops within a 5 mile radius of my house. One is great, I'm actually known by all of the staff, and the other one, I swear I can ran the stores better by myself (yes all of them at once) than the people they have working and managing them. Since I buy 99% of my games new, I don't have to worry about price because it's same price no matter where I go. Even their used game policy is great, buy two used games, get one of equal or lesser value free. Most of their used games are $20 or less so that's cheap for me.

I honestly don't really care where I shop, though I usually go to the local gamestop if I'm buying a new 360 games, PC games I just buy online or off steam. Honestly gamestop is just a hair better where I live then some of the other stores. Walmart, the employees don't know anything about what they're selling, sure they occasionally have someone who is supposed to be an "expert", but even those guys just read a short pamphlet at best. This guy was trying to sell the Move to people and I told him sorry I don't have a PS3 and he was like oh maybe if you can't afford to buy a ps3 maybe you want to buy a psp? I flashed him my PSP in my case from my pocket and he started opening the window to pull out a PSP, to my amusement he didn't know what the PSP looked like yet he was trying to shove them off on people. And another time I went in to buy a DS power cord, and I wasn't really sure if the lite, XL, or DSi used different cords or not since the shelves for some reason since they had different cords labeled specifically for each of those. And I asked the guy if he had a cord for the original DS and he was like....umm what do you mean original DS? And I was like, you know the big fat gray one? And he told me I didn't know what I was talking about because the first DSes were the lites.
That and finding a person to open the damn windows in either walmart/target to get the games is often a pain in the ass.
I'm not a huge fan of Best Buy either, their stock really seems to be random, games not in alphabetical order, or copies just shelved in the wrong section. If the game is older then a month or so, you might be shit out of luck in finding it.
I can walk into a small gamestop walk to the counter get my game and leave. And honestly maybe it's because I have a rather rough or "don't mess with me look" or hell maybe I'm just lucky, but I never get asked for preorders, subscriptions, or buying the game used when I ask for a new copy.

I go to Gamestop, mainly because there's one only about a mile from my house. Sure, the service isn't great, but if you just go in and buy the game, there's not much to worry about. I've never had a bad experience with a used game from Gamestop.

I only shop at Game Force because it's the only store cool enough to stock all the way back to the 8-bit generation. I don't really have anything against GameStop.

Yeah. I'm not a mainstream gamer, so most of the games that I usually do want have been out for years and aren't sold at regular retailers around my neighborhood, so I shop at GameStop, and I've had very decent customer service. But I guess that's because the worst someone would do to you on the streets, where I live, is call you names.

I'm going to assume that you live in the UK, because the people at an american gamestop are trained to have absolutely no opinion until knowing yours, at that point they will smile, laugh and agree with everything you say, no matter how ass or against the grain it is.
My general exp. has been different. I've seen some totally bash a game I like even though I said I liked it. It went like this, "Hey Gears 3! I loved the first one and the second one wasn't bad either." The employee says "That games is stupid bad. Blah blah blah"
Sorry he went on a like 5 minute bashing spree while I spaced out at the counter, so I don't remember all the crap he talked about the game.

The only time I don't shop there is for new games that are offered cheaper somewhere else, for example, Arkham Asylum was 40 bucks at walmart when it came out, and best buy matched it, so I bought it there(then sold it to my buddy for the same price after I beat it).

Yes, I buy at Gamestop. Every time I've bought stuff, it's usually a gruff "No" to special offers of their's (some polite ones), give them the cash for it, and walk away with my new games. I've had no crap when dealing with them, and when I traded in a few games and stuff, sure, I didn't get as much as I wanted back, but I got three better games than the five I traded in combined. Apparently, the Gamestop stores in southwest Ohio are the nicest ones ever. Their service is great, and even when I asked for games that they didn't have eventually (in one case, Sands of Destruction), they were nice about saying it. Hell, they didn't even say a word (or laugh) when I bought Soul Calibur Legends. The fact it wasn't an ideal game purchase aside, they still didn't berate me for it. It just doesn't seem like good business sense for a store to actually belittle their customers to me, and it certainly hasn't happened to me.

And for those who can't be bothered to read that...

My philosophy with my customers is "you want what you want, and who am i to say anything if you don't want my opinion?"

now on the other hand, if someone brought a copy of Borderlands up to the counter and asked "is this one any good?" I will probably mention that most of the staff refers to it as "Boringlands," and maybe try to think of a better game that's around the same price, if not cheaper.

And in some cases, if I happen to know that a game is exceptionally shitty (and the customer doesn't come off as a die-hard stan of the subject matter or series) i just might say "hey, I'm not sure this game is worth the $65 you're about to drop on it." I mean, even if they don't buy something else, I feel like I've done them some small favor in my limited capacity.

See? we're not all fat, obnoxious, bitter people behind the GS counter.

Well I'm not fat, at least.

In Canada I believe we don't have any Gamestops, but we do have EBGames, which is the same damn thing. The guys at my local one are super cool, nice helpful guys so I enjoy shopping there. I normally end up talking top them most of the time.

EB Games/Gamestop/GAME - whatever you want to call them, they're all the basic same idea.. if you find a good one, and most of them are amazing that I have been to, are friggin' awesome places to shop and support. Anyone who has a problem with 'pre-opened games' seriously needs to find the real reason that they're bitching because that's a moot point, a damn clear moot point that I don't even fully understand since that only happens for me if I get the last copy in my area.. but either way that's all been covered in a recent article.
