Do you care about game age?

I was thinking of this when my step sisters critisized me for listening to "old music". The song was made 3 years ago and they dont like it because it is "old", but they liked it when it first came out. They are like this with all music, but, why would a game (or song) become bad just because it has been out for a while.

In my logic if it was entertaining and good 3, 10, 20 or what ever years ago, you enjoyed it and it still works fine, why would it become bad?

People are weird like that (no offense) but when something gets old, it's old, and bad.
Silly trends I say. But with games it might be that when it came out the graphics where like "damn, that is awesome o_o" and lets say with today's ps3-graphic and you play an old game, the graphic looks like shit. And maybe you've changed what kind of stories you like and similar.

Mah, In the end, who cares what people says, you like what you like~

I don't regard age as criteria when I buy a game. Just whether I can play it or not.

I look to previous generations of consoles for new gaming experiences rather than the current.

@Najica the only time I'd say a game's graphics were bad is if they made the game unplayable.

I care about whether or not it's fun. Age doesn't really matter for me.

A song made three years ago is "old"? I think I might be listening to what the cavemen did.

No I don't care, so long as I don't get pwned by an 8 year old.

I'm old so my view might be skewed, but almost anything made since I started uni is new or recent, that's 1998. 9/11 happened last month and Obama has been president for about a week.

Thanks to Fallout I've grown a newfound appreciation for older music. Age doesn't matter if something is good.

My sister briefly was like that and was acting like I was weird for listening to some stuff I had on. Then she went to a bar (in Colombia, of all places) that was playing all the stuff she used to listen to in high school (which is ~10 years ago at this point), and she suddenly "got it". If something was good before, it sure can still be good now. That doesn't mean everyone will like the same things they used to, because tastes can change over time, but it's not a reason to dismiss things. Also, now she wants all my old CDs. Heh.

I recently bought Final Fantasy tactics (the original on PSone), Chrono Trigger and Cross, and also Orphen (which I sod years aog and regretted severely), so no, the age of games for me personally doesn't matter.
If it's great, it's great.
Like a wine wine, if anything it appreciates in value.

Graphics are meh. I've playing Alundra 1 recently and have been enjoying it as much if not more than many current gen titles. Also my tastes in music are slightly older. One of my cousins thinks I should have been born in the 70s rather than the 90s. The songs kick ass though so *shrug* their problem for not liking them.

A game's age means nothing to me. As long as I still find it fun to play it does not matter if it is 5, 10, 15, or 20 years old. As long as I still think it is fun to play I am going to play it.

Where the hell did you get those classics from?

OT: Absolutely not, alot of these new bands should take some time to reflect on why people continue to listen to old music, and in the same regard, games. Theres a reason starcraft spawned a sport in a country and is still largely played 10 years after its release.

I got both Crono Trigger and Cross off eBay for $15 each and Tactics for $43.

Well the way I see it is the world is an ever changing place, and if you don't venture out and explore music or games that are new then you could be missing out on something you like.

Times change, people do too.

Like I'm REALLY into new music at the moment, mostly electronic/drum n bass/dubstep, but because this genre is pretty new to me, I find myself going back as much as forward, fully exploring it.

It's important to remember where you've been, but don't miss out on the beauty of something new to you either.

I still frequently load up my mega-drive or N64 to play some games I've clearly played to death. It's still fun, and that's all that's important. It's not like it's stopping me from buying new games, doesn't cost a dime to keep old stuff.

Same with music. Infact, with music, I find that old stuff can resonate deeper because you may link it with memories and past emotions, mix that with some new sounds too and it's a recipe for AWESOME.

tldr;
Do what you enjoy! But it's always worth looking back, and looking ahead. You never know when you'll find something epic.

If old games are terrible, those Namco Museum games wouldn't keep getting released and the consoles wouldn't have them available for download.

When it comes down to it, I believe it's more of a cultural thing. The entertainment industry has become quantity over quality, and to compensate for it, new stuff needs to be released because stuff more than a year old is quickly forgotten.

StarCraft is one of my favourite strategy games and Ocarina of Time is just my favourite game ever.

Oh and I'm currently listening to Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory by Dream Theater, which was released in 1999.
