The Question: So, BE TRUTHFUL; do you get upset when someone mentions they like gaming on a device? Does it actually bother you? And what makes these things important if you do?
Examples: "I like games on the PC because they look better" or "360 just has a nicer controller" or "Wii has Mario and I love that!"
You see, that's what a lot of people don't get. Why is it so inferior? Because we can't upgrade the hardware? Well it's built so it can keep being used in better ways over its life cycle, unlike a PC which gets made obsolete a lot faster.Stall said:I don't think "upset" is the right word, but how people still use consoles as their primary gaming platform in the year 2011 is just beyond me. I guess I feel... pity when people are willing to play on nothing but a console, and then sit there and steadfastly defend their objectively inferior platform. It's just depressing when people not just settle for mediocrity, but are completely content in it.
Don't forget to call me a Spear Fishing Elitist and just randomly make shit up.DumpsterHumper said:Oh, you did not just say that to me. Now I'm going to write a long and elaborate post explaining the pros and NONE OF THE CONS of fly fishing, while listing and exaggerating all of the cons of spear fishing because that is how I roll.RhombusHatesYou said:Bah! SPEAR FISHING 4 LYF, YO!DumpsterHumper said:I enjoy fishing but I don't go up to people and yell "FLY FISHING IS SUUUPEEEERIIIOOOR!!!".
Uh, not really. Due to the extended length of this console generation, gaming PCs have been going out of date at a remarkably slow rate. Even further, what is the alternative when a console goes out of date? Buy a new 500 dollar console? That seems a whole lot more expensive than upgrading a PC every three years...MightyRabbit said:You see, that's what a lot of people don't get. Why is it so inferior? Wait, what? Why would you defend this? PCs can use both controllers and M+K, while consoles usually require some external hardware to use M+K. This isn't an opinion thing... this is a fact thing. How you can just wish away this inferiority of consoles is stunningly illogical.MightyRabbit said:Because we're limited to a controller? Well not every game requires a keyboard, and those that are designed with a controller in mind work better with one. Sure, with some RPGs that make their ways onto consoles we lose out.
Ah, so instead of trying to build and maintain good and powerful online architecture, let's just make it appeal to the lowest common denominator. What fun! Again, why does this dismiss the inherit superiority of PCs? Just because some people won't use these features doesn't mean these features don't make PC the better platform.MightyRabbit said:Because we have inferior online systems? Well not everybody wants online connectivity, and those that do will either just want to download some DLC or an indie game or just have a simple deathmatch with their friends.
Yet again: Wait, what? How does this make sense? Why is adding a feature a bad thing? You are basically saying that "Oh, mods are bad and worthless since some people don't want to use them". Yet again, you are wishing away a heavy con of consoles with an illogical and rather sad argument by again appealing to the lowest common denominator of gamers.MightyRabbit said:Because of modding? Modding has a rather small audience, and some people either don't care or dislike how fiddly it can be for some games.
And fuck them too.RhombusHatesYou said:Racecarlock said:Nah. But it apparently does matter to guys like the one I quoted. Frankly, I prefer the respectful majority PC gamers such as yourself. Unfortunately, some people still see the need to label people as dumb or low class based on the machine they play on. And I'm not going to stand for that anymore. I'm fine with people playing on any machine as long as people don't get all "I'm better than you because of my platform choice" about it, like the guy I quoted.RhombusHatesYou said:It doesn't matter to most PC gamers.Racecarlock said:Why does it even matter to PC gamers?
Fair enough, but remember that there are unmitigated wankers on both sides of the fence.
eeyup, it sure has, so yeah, it bothered me enough to stop getting console versions so i could play with my friends.Aris Khandr said:Not so much anymore. I had a friend who used to get a bunch of games for the PS3, which is (of course) not compatible with my PC for multiplayer goodness. That problem has since solved itself.
