Down here in Australia its so socially accepted that our politicians and grandmas use it.

So no, I don't find it offensive.

I don't find any "swear words" offensive. They can be annoying, but only if they are overused, although this goes for every word...

In Norway, the word "shit" is said very often, although it's not meant offensive or anything, it's a part of the language, often used when something goes wrong (for example if you fall or lose in a game, you say "shit" in this country.)

A story a friend told me was that his american aunt was visiting, and after about a day, he fell on a carpet or something, saying "shit". The aunt was very offended, but it is a normal word here.

Only if thrown at me. I would also find it offensive if someone showed me theirs with extra sweetcorn and kiwi seeds.

As a word, I find it pretty tame unless used as an adjective while discussing my love-making skills.

I don't seem to get offended by any swears or curses.

I use them enough; plus what the hell is 'offense' anyway?

Nobody says 'I took offense and woke up the next morning without a kidney'

Nothing happens if you take offense; so stop taking offense

I don't think words are inherently offensive, the intention is the thing that could bother me.
For example:
(someone say to me)
- "you are a piece of shit!", there someone is purposely insulting me, so I react accordingly.

- "Where did you lean how to cook man?, this stew is a piece of shit ha ha ha", just joking around and considering I don't know how to cook a stew the person is probably wright.

Of course I wouldn't say such things until I know for sure that my interlocutor won't get bothered.

Crap, shit, wankers, bollocks and arse are all used constantly throughout the day, I do however get mildly annoyed at people who spout words like fuck and **** at every opportunity, those words are far less endearing.

The word should not be considdered offensive to anyone.
Neither should be the F word.
C word is bad as people suffer from it and not by choice either, so don't use that.

It's mild.

I'm far more irritated by "that's gay" and other similar linguistic gems.

Not even slightly.

Its not like its aimed at a particular race or religion.

How could it possibly be offensive?
