I don't find it offensive unless it is directly uttered towards someone. However people that over-use expletives tend to become very annoying.

I don?t find the word shit offensive at all, except when it?s used in an insult.

?You?re a worthless piece of shit.? (Not directed at anybody on this site, I?m using this sentence as an example to get my point across.)

Hearing that really hurts, especially when you've done something great and didn't deserve it.

Throughout the years of my life, I've heard a wonderful array of colorful language from a wide variety of people. But the number 1 word that stood out among everything is shit. "I hate that shit!", or "Do you have the shit?", or "This shit is cold." are a few examples of this word. Having heard it so much, I don't even think twice about using it in social company, unless at the dinner table or in the presence of relatives or small children. What do you think?

Depends who is shitting on who, and where.

If your shit stinks, say crap. : D

Which basically says that there's no difference between teh two except stupid other peoples' expectations adn fantasy notions of moral highground so one might as well just go for Shit.

As long as someoen isn't trying to be a hardass by saying a bad word or using it every sentence, I don't mind it.

I've never found any swear words offensive, from cusses like 'damn' and 'hell' right up to the heavy hitters like 'fuck' and '****'. There're just words, but I can understand (sort of) why people don't like hearing them.
I edit my language so it's appropriate for the audience. I'd never swear in front of my grandparents or younger brother, for example.

It doesn't really bother me, but when I hear twelve year olds putting fuck into every sentence I get really angry. Makes me want to shove that cigarette they're smoking right down their little throats. Maybe then they'll be too badly burnt to swear.

I don't find swear words offensive.

But obviously I don't answer the phone with 'alright, you ****?' like my mate cause I know most people don't like it.

It's all contextual. Anyone who is literally offended by the word itself rather than the context of its usage is nothing short of retarded.
