Do you drink?

Occasionally I will have myself a drink if, let's say my friends invite me to go to a bar. But, it's been like 2-3 months since I've had anything to drink. So, I don't drink that often.

No. I have an alcohol intolerance, so if I drink enough alcohol (ie. about one beer) I projectile vomit. And it tastes AWFUL, so I never get to the barfing point. (I found out about the whole vomiting thing after an accident with mouthwash and later, during a dare with a beer).

Yes, I do.

There was a time when the idea didn't interest me, and I didn't think I'd ever bother to be honest. But then my friends and I went out drinking and........well, I was interested after that.

And not liking the taste is no excuse - there's a huge variety of different brands and flavours you can get, you can't hate all of them.
If all else fails, mix some vodka in with your favourite soft drink and taste is no longer an issue.

Nope.

I hate the taste and it makes you act like an idiot.

I don't understand why anyone would want to do it.

I "have a drink" sometimes, but I don't "drink" if you follow me. I'm nearly 30 but I've never been drunk, and have no real inclination to. I do think the occasional rum is nice though. Just one though.

Just something of a curiosity to me... Fellow Escapists, do you or don't you drink alcohol? For either answer, for what reason?
I don't, mainly because I don't like the taste. As I said earlier, just something of a curiosity to me.
Yes, probably too much. I love the taste and I like the effects of alcohol - though most of the time I prefer not to get "drunk".
It should be said that it is an acquired taste so don't be surprised if you don't like it and you are young, perhaps more to the point don't assume that this means you will never have the taste for alcohol.
Then of course there is a vast spectrum of alcoholic drinks (most of which i'm quite happy to consume) many of which are fine products in their own right... a decent wine can be an exquisite accompaniment to fine food, then there are premier beers which have their own charming characteristics, not to mention spirits or even cocktails. If nothing else then purely from a gastronomic perspective you owe it to your self not to be a prig about abstinence and to persevere.
Of course there is the flip side, like the other day when I drank a bottle of peach schnapps (which is vile by it self) just because i was desperate for alcohol and it was all that was left in the house...

I find this curious... How come you've never been drunk? have you never been curious or gotten carried away? are you afraid of being drunk?

No. Drunk people are annoying and apparently drinking alone is dangerous. Also, by consuming alcohol, you're exposing yourself to a whole new set of laws and regulations that you wouldn't have to observe if you didn't drink at all. Just ask Lindsay Lohan.

I like to drink, but I mostly stick to beer. Liquor always has bad effects on me so I try to stick mostly with beer, plus I prefer the taste of beer.

No.

My mother and step-father and alcoholics, and have really given me a jaded opinion on the substance.
Same except its my aunt and grandpa who had the problems. Personally, I don't really see the appeal anyway.

No, I don't drink. I just don't understand the appeal. I'm nearly 31 years old and never understood what people see in the stuff but to each their own.

It's a major problem here in the UK, far moreso than in the US I'd imagine and it just reinforces my disdain for the stuff even more.

My family is full of alcoholics on both sides, and I dislike the idea of losing control of my own mind.

Nor do I use drugs or tobacco. Not into the culture of it that's developed here in America (a bunch of thugs who probably still get drunk on the down low), but I am straight edge.

Quite often I do, but not in excess. In spite of hating the feeling of being drunk, whiskey is just so damn tasty.

Weelll...I suppose I'm not old enough. But even if I was...

1) I have had the extreme *pleasure* of brow-beaten with "alcohol is bad! ALKEEHALL IZ BAAAAD!" since I was little and therefore it still influences me.
2) actually, drinking has been proven to scrape away at general healthyness...or, at least, your liver.
3) I have long had digestive issues which currently prevent me from consuming chocolate, milk, and carbonated drinks. I have a strong suspicion alcohol would do the same to my poor colon.
