My favorite game series is Devil may cry and its always full of either awsome intence long battle cutscenes or dramatic emotional cutscenes. When my friend showed me yathzees reveiw it kind of upsetted me what he said. How you should be able to play those cutscenes. Why? arnt fun to watch? cutscenes are one of the best ways to engross you in games. Would the battles have been as epic if you played them no of course not.

What do you think?

Like i absolutly loved the prologue of DMC4 yet apparently its tooo long.

I love cutscenes. I grew up with PS1-era RPGs so I have always loved them.

I like action packed ones, because they're fun, but not so much the emotional exposition type. Just do that in game.

I think if a cutscene is well done with good writing, voice acting and animation it can definitely be enjoyable to watch. Bad cutscenes, however, make me hit the skip button faster than you can say Bolo Santosi.

That's entirely dependant on the cutscene itself. In some games, they're unbareable, in others, they're fantastic.

The majority of the time though, I love them. They're a nice narrative break from gameplay.

I think his point is that games should be games, if he wanted to watch snazzy fight scenes he'd get a movie. . . Or a zoetrope

When they're done well, yes. I love the cutscenes in KotOR, Mass Effect, Dragon Age and all Blizzard games.

Needs to be done by someone who knows how to do cutscenes... and the cutscenes are not just showing you the kickass stuff your controls can't pull off.

I love cutscenes, except when they are... Unskippable.

That not a plug for the series, I mean it. I like to replay games, but sometimes I would murder everyone in the room for the chance to skip a lengthy scene.

If they are well done (Not too long/short, add into the game, doesn't happen too often) I love them, if not.... well lets just say.... PRESS X NOW!!!

As long as they have the option to skip them, I don't mind. I do hate it when cut scenes are not skippable and they are before a boss battle or something, if you lose then you gotta watch it again and again. Sometimes the length does not bother me unless it gets into MGS4 territory, I'm patient and when you boil it down, it's no different than the days of old when you had to scroll through long pieces of text, it's just now they are read for you.

Sure.

Just not these ones in MGS4.

GET ON WITH IT. No wonder it's a "stealth" game. I spend more time sat on my arse talking to Otatwat than I do shooting bad evil soldiers in the face.

Depends on the sort of game. For roleplaying games yes, cutscenes look better then ingame and story is vital for rpg's. For most shooters, action games etc , hell no. I couldn't care less about the horrible story in games like Halo, Killzone etc and I'll only play them if I want to shoot some stuff.

No, I don't like them at all, especially in a shooter. When my goal is to kill whatever's in front of me, just let me loose. Don't try to give me motivation, make me care or waste my little free time. Just give me ammo and get out of my way. Even in non-traditional shooters (ok, rpgs), when npc's start talking at me I usually go get a snack or answer emails till their done.
