Maybe for you...but I find it too...authentic. I prefer fantasy worlds with magic. And the combat to be frustratingly over-timing based. Don't even get me started on the houseback combat. And the army management.
Great for role-playing...bad for playing, really.
I disagree entirely. If you were expecting bayonetta style ridiculous and over the top button mashing combat I can see how you'd be disappointed with M&B's more tactical take on blocking and attacking plus I'd say the horseback combat is absolutely sublime once you get used to it. The best rendition in gaming, seriously!
Please don't generalize about my taste in games and combat according to my avatar. >_>
It's insulting that you think I'd hate it merely because it wasn't "button mashing" (anyone who's played Bayonetta on Hard/Climax...or even Normal can tell you it's not simply "button mashing" due to an emphasis on timing and dodging)
My problem with it was that it wasn't very well done on horse back, because what are clearly hits tended to miss. And this isn't an RNG dice-roll to determine hit kinda game, either. Don't get me started on horseback archery.
And don't knock the demo. It had a good hour plus of content, even after the tutorials were done. Usually more than enough to fairly judge a game, at least on combat and core mechanics. And add the Warband demo's hour to it, too. 2 hours of M&B gameplay.
I did really like the blocking, though. You couldn't just hold down the button. You had to time it.
Also, the lack of any voice acting is ridiculous to me. Even Morrowind, which is 5+ years older than M&B, at least had greetings when you approached a person.
I know this is an indie developer on a budget, but a little bit goes a long way.
And army management isn't my thing...Unless I have direct control over every fucking action they ever take. Or the gambit/tactics system from FF12/Dragon Age to give them clear guidelines.
Are there any mods to fix any of my issues? I hear it has a thriving community in that regard.
