I do this a lot with comics and games with no voice acting for certain characters, but not forums. Although I'm probably going to start now that you've brought it up. On a side note, although I've never seen her with a voice in anything, be it fan-made or official, I think that my avatar sounds kinda like the Japanese voice of Amy Rose. Just sayin'.

Edit:

I sometimes label people with female avatars as female, but over time I ignore the connection.
A little curious though, what do you think of my avatar? What does it "say" to you?
It says, "You know what? I'm totally ominous and almighty. I don't have to take crap from you."

Edit #2: I just read one of the above posts:

Like I said, that sounds interesting enough for me to start trying to do just that.

Edit #3: I changed a point in the original post to make it more accurate.

"Pathetic mortal! your simple mind could never comprehend my true voice! or my motivations...I shall wash my blade in the blood of al you know! MAAHAHAHAHA!!!"

Pretty much that

I generally assume people aren't what they like to display themselves as at their core. So I... don't think it's ever even occurred to me to pay a glance at an avatar, I certainly don't normally pay attention to them. I'm more interested in the user-name people choose.

long story short: no. I don't read them in the avatars voice, I read it in my own, which isn't even the one I verbally speak in.

... for those out there with synesthesia you might understand, my "voice" is more color than sound.

Oh, I know, I love it too >:] On all my accounts I have on assorted forums, I'll use one of their seven album arts for my avatar; representin everywhere I go.

I've never imagined someone's avatar talking when I read people's text, but now I might...

Speaking of your avatar... is that Joseph Gordon-Levitt dressed as a woman? Because it really looks like it.

A person's avatar tends to affect the tone in which I read their post and my impression of the personality of the person behind the picture. Doesn't affect the voice I read with in my head, but it affects the assumptions I make about a person.
You be careful what you think, capiche?

Just the gender voices. There's only two. If the Avatar's a guy or some creature or thing that I'm unable to recognize their privy parts I'll do the male voice, if it's a girl I'll do the female voice.

May I pull your hair~~? :3

OT: I usually read posts with my own voice in mind probably because I can't voice act for the life of me even in my mind.

This seems as good a time as any to tell you that your avatar is awesome.

OT: All the freaking time.

I never do that. I just use the avatar to recognize people.

I don't know what person my reading voice comes from, but it certainly isn't my own. I wonder who it is.. for I have no idea.
